I am enjoying how seamless the interface is and how Symfonium ties everything together as I have been learning more about it; I want to level up my experience by creating some killer custom playlists.
I was wondering if anyone here has some pro tips or tricks for setting up playlists in a way that makes them super organized and easy to access?? is there a way to set filters for mood based tracks or maybe something like dynamically updating playlists based on certain criteria?
As well, I found these resources when doing research on this; http://support.symfonium.app/t/unique-symfonium-playlistscpq & if anyone have any resources, tutorials or personal experiences please share with me, It would be greatly appreciated!!
Dynamically updating a playlist is an interesting idea. I think if there were some added options with the symfonium API it could be possible to have an app like tasker make changes to the Rules / Filters of a playlist on the fly. Which would be very cool.
In terms of upping your game with playlists my answer to you would be to get more data. Symfonium is very good at manipulating data. The more information you have (within reason) the higher the limit is.
For example. if you have the BPM of your music tagged you could then sort a playlist by the BPM which in my opinion has the potential to dramatically change the way that playlist feels to a listener.
In my library I add alot of custom info & I sometimes use this extra info to create better playlists. As an example I tag the samples & interpolations in tracks. So in my library I can find all the songs that sample: Back Stabbers by the O’jays
With my extra info I could create a playlist of specifically Asian Female Artists of the Funk Genre between 1998-2008 or maybe I want to find a playlist of Gospel songs that quote the book of Mathew.
Those are very specific but you get the point.
My larger playlists are much more general as I tend to separate my music by general vibes
Gospel (Choir)
Trap
Jazz
Trap House Jazz
Electronic
Lo-Fi
Throwbacks
…you get it
I have one example that might fit here, although it is not quire magic after all. I like to hear radio plays when I go to sleep, but sometimes I am not decided for a specific one. But I have some go-to series I like most of the time. Each of that series is maintained in the library as an album, with each episode of the series being a track in that album.
I now wanted to have a list of one random episode of each of four series as a shortcut on the homescreen. For that I built one smart playlist for each series with “album is X”, sort by random, max item count 1, giving me four playlists with each one random entry. Then I built a “master” playlist with four times “In smart playlist is …”, including the four other playlists. Then I added the master playlist to the homescreen, and voilà - there is my quick selector for going-to-sleep entertainment with four random episodes from my favorite series.
