I’ve been using Symfonium for a while now to organise my huge music library, which consists of over 10,000 tracks. The program works great for daily tasks, but I’m having some trouble syncing and maintaining big playlists. I’m hoping someone here can help out or provide advice on how to make the process run more smoothly.
In particular, I’m having problems with:
Slow Synchronisation: It seems to take a long time to sync my whole library, and occasionally it even seems to stall. Is there a suggested method for expediting or streamlining the synchronisation procedure for bigger collections?
Playlist Structure: I’m having some trouble effectively controlling my playlists. For example, I haven’t discovered a simple and quick method in the app to rearrange or combine playlists. Does Symfonium allow for complex playlist management features such as merging playlists?
Offline Playback: I’m also interested in learning about the best ways to handle offline playback. Are there any specific configurations or procedures to guarantee that music that has been downloaded for offline playback is constantly accessible and easy to use?
You need to be a bit more specific if you want useful tips.
Such as?
Big meaning? 100s of tracks, 1000s?
Once again, how long is “a long time”? What provider are you using? Are you connected via wifi, mobile data, etc.?
My syncs with Jellyfin as provider take around 50min but then again, my collection is ~90x your size so I wouldn’t say they’re “slow”.
Personally I manage my playlists on the desktop in MusicBee and only sync the results to Symfonium. Rearranging many files on a touch device always feels inefficient to me.
A decently sized rolling cache (depends on how much storage your phone has) so you can listen to a few tracks/albums over and over without having to load them from the server repeatedly plus downloading on demand stuff to your permanent cache if you for example go somewhere where you won’t have internet for a while are the ways to go imho.
10k tracks ist not a huge library. I sync 60k tracks against two providers (Kodi, LMS) in about two minutes. Please describe your setup and sync times so we can get an impression whether something should be different.
For offline caching I go the brutal approach and cache everything. You need enough storage for that obviously (a 512 GB SD card in my case). Initial caching took some time (more than one day IIRC). As I am currently rerippig my library in FLAC and everything needs to be transcoded for caching then, it will be even more of an issue in the future. So you should think through what you really want/need.
I do not use playlists much. Symfonium allows no nested playlists, and you can combine playlists only by creating a new playlist with a filter set that collects the songs from the already existing lists.
In general, Symfonium is no library management app. It is expected that you manage your library elsewhere and use Symfonium for playback/streaming/casting primarily.
