Support for the mp3 tag “Grouping”. It would behave the same as the tag “Label”.
Display of non-audio files in the album folder (as options). In most folders with individual albums I have a subdirectory “art” where other album images are located. These are mainly LP back covers, CD booklets, etc. Unfortunately, there is no access to them. There is a “Playable media only” switch for displaying album content in the filter settings, but it has no visible effect.
Thank you
Problem solved:
Bad orientation in the collection.
Difficult to search for images from the album using the file explorer.
Brought benefits:
I have a collection with 7000 albums and tag grouping is essential for organizing and making the collection clearer.
Please explain better the concept. Why would it act like Label and there’s probably an auto correction because Bad orientation in the collection sounds strange.
This is normal, there’s no image viewer or pdf viewer integrated to Symfonium and file mode is really not meant to be used in Symfonium.
By comparing it to the Label tag, it is meant that it could also be displayed in the left bar, after clicking on it, a list of groups would appear in the main window and that would allow filtering. Just like when you work with the Label tag, it was just a comparison. Otherwise, you only have the entire collection available and it is less clear with a large number of albums. I use it in Windows in the MusicBee program and it is the basic filtering for me.
I understand. Couldn’t this be solved by opening the image in the system browser after clicking?
That is individual. I use the following items for grouping: Classical, Czech, English, Gospel, Grass, Lessons, Speech. But I have now solved that by editing the Genre tags, which are clearly visible in Symfonium.
Rather, I still need to solve how to get to the saved images in the album folders. These are useful images of the backs of CDs and especially LPs. Now I have to search for the relevant album being played in the file browser and open the images there. That is very inconvenient and time-consuming. For example, this is solved in the Foobar2000 application in the folder declaration. But then again, there are quite a few other shortcomings.
You can also use the special tag ALBUM_TAGS to add arbitrary tags to albums that are also fully visible. I’ll probably add an option to import grouping as album tags.
For the images, pdf, … There’s no plans for that sorry it would not work for most of the providers if the renderers are not internal to Symfonium.
Personally I would hope grouping tags would not interfere with existing organisation at all. I use grouping tags in musicbee as the equivalent of ‘release type’ tags in Symfonium. The values are often different due to the difference in the way the applications organise artist’s albums (ie. Symfonium splits into Album Artist and Appears on, Musicbee displays every album an artist is featured on together).
I think if your grouping tag was merged with album tags it wouldn’t interfere but if you’re looking for a field that sort of stands alone I’d utilize the Releasetype tag although your grouping tags seem to be vast. For me i would split some of those to different tags that are already supported
You have items that I’d move to the following tags
Language
Release Type
TAGS (Album Tags)
Track_Tags
Currently I gather all the track tags (remove duplicates) & all the track tags across an album become album tags.
One thing I do to sort of separate this info though is to add prefixes to specific tags im using
Ex. Content tags all start with "PA | "
Location Tags start with "● "
Track tags have no prefix so when looking at the album tags section in the about page my tags are not only sorted but also seperated by the type of tag
As for alternate album arts I think it may be more feasible for Symfonium to view extra embedded arts but im not totally sure.
RELEASETYPE tags are used for grouping in Symfonium.
Grouping tags are used for grouping in Musicbee. I could copy these to a created tag in musicbee, but I’d rather avoid the hassle - hence why I was basically stating my preference for grouping tags to be ignored in Symfonium.
I have country tags and track/album_tags too, to covey different information from the above
Ahhh. I see you & OP want different things. Im sure with this implementation
You should both be happy in terms of handling grouping tags as the import “option” would be an option & thus if you want to opt out you should be fine.
Ok, it would be nice to have the Grouping tag available, although as you say, this can also be solved using other tags. My two favorite programs that I use for mp3 (MusicBee and TagScanner) have the Grouping tag among the basic ones.
I have another request: On the All albums tab, sorting can be set. However, the menu is missing sort by Album-artist. Please add this option.
And also about the options for displaying extra images in the application. If you select an album on the Albums tab, there is an option Change local thumbnail on the cover image. This will take you to the file browser (select from file picker), where jpg files are already visible and here it is possible to view images using, for example, the system Photos application, without changing the local thumbnail. This works well. The only problem that would be good to solve is how to get to the relevant folder directly. I see two options here. Either the option to change the thumbnail would lead directly to the necessary folder or, which would be more elegant, the path to the file being played is listed in the album detail on the player tab. This path could be clickable and this would open the directory containing the file being played. Or maybe there is another way, but I can’t think of anything right now.
There is currently a request for this feature here in the meantime well just have to wait to see if it’s possible & if / how its implemented if at all.
These are embedded jpg files in the music folder of the given album and in its subfolder. The structure is as follows:
1.mp3
2.mp3
.
.
cover.jpg (small)
and the “art” subfolder, which contains additional jpg files of the front and back side in high resolution, booklet, etc. Especially with old LPs, there is a lot of information about the artist or a photos on the back side.
