Feature description:
A secondary function for the WearOS app that allows users to select music to be routed through the phone’s Bluetooth-connected headphones instead of the watch’s Bluetooth. This allows the WearOS app to act as a remote for the phone-based Symfonium app - similar to WearOS’s default “Media Controls” but with the ability to select specific music from the user’s library.
Problem solved:
It replaces or enhances WearOS’s “Media Controls” by allowing users to select artists, albums, or individual tracks from the watch, while still playing music through the phone (and its connected Bluetooth headphones). This adds a level of control that “Media Controls” currently lacks.
Brought benefits:
Many users do not connect Bluetooth headphones to their watch.
In some countries, Watch SIM plans are expensive, and multi-device Bluetooth headphones can be costly. To avoid complications, many users pair headphones only with their phone (e.g. for calls), but still want the granular control over music playback that Symfonium on WearOS can provide.
Even if the phone is nearby, users may want to avoid picking it up to prevent distraction
Other application solutions:
I’ve yet to find another app that does this. Currently, I use Assistant on my watch to request an artist or album, but because Assistant doesn’t know my music library, it often guesses - and sends this to Poweramp (my current player, before discovering Symfonium yesterday).
Additional description and context:
WearOS has similar functionality when placing calls via the watch using the “Switch to phone” option. Though limited to calls, it shows the concept is intuitive.
