Playback keeps stopping on Wear OS

Issue description:

Using Symfonium on Pixel Watch 2. I leave my phone at home when I go for a run and just use music I’ve downloaded to Symfonium on my watch to listen to music. But playback keeps stopping midway through any song I play and I have to skip to the last track or the next to get it playing again. It seems to only be a problem when I start a running exercise from Fitbit on the watch that uses GPS.

Logs:

Upload description: can’t get logs from wear os app

Additional information:

Reproduction steps:

  1. Download music to symfonium on wear os
  2. Without phone connected, play downloaded music.
  3. Start running exercise in Fitbit on Wear OS (with GPS enabled)
  4. Playback will intermittently stop and not continue unless skip back or forward a track.

Media provider:

Plex

Does in always happen when something else speaks?

What is the state of the app when you return to it?

Do you see the player paused?

Nothing is speaking when it happens - there are no other sounds.

When I return to the player it isn’t paused - the icon to pause it is there but it has a loading animation circling it as if playback is buffering or something

What are the files that you downloaded? (What quality settings in Wear)

Can you reproduce without running ? I really don’t feel the need to go running in the cold :stuck_out_tongue:

And do you have other always running apps on the watch like very complex watch face or other tracker apps ?

Actually, I just tried it here at home without even having a Fitbit exercise running and it’s still doing it. First time I’ve used it while not out running so I don’t think it’s related to GPS or Fitbit.

My downloads are set to medium quality. Using a wear os watch face and as far as I know no other tracking or always running apps. Maybe I’ll try it with a different default watch face and see if that helps

After starting a media, navigate to something Symfonium library.

And when it happens, open Symfonium from the watch launcher to see if it returns to the previous page or the home page, could help see if it’s the app being killed.

But I have a pixel watch 2 for the tests and it never occurred so I guess I’ll have to find a way to expose logs on the watch too :frowning:

Does it happen after a long delay? Do you queue a very long playlist? Anything special you can think of?

Just tried and when it happens and I start symfonium from the app launcher it goes back to the library page I was on before - so it doesn’t look like the app’s being killed. It just happened from a 3 song ep playlist so it’s not a big queue. Can’t really think of what might be causing it? Would it help if I reset the watch do you think?

It seems to happen with the second song in playlist and every song after … although may be it has happened on the first before. It’s generally around the middle of a song

No need to reset the watch.

What BT headphones do you use? any chances that it disconnect or something?

Listening on the watch since 25 minutes and no issue as usual with the last version.

Do you have a computer to be able to sideload APKs and get the logcat ?

Edit: Just in case can you check the version at the bottom of the settings screen ?

I’m using pixel buds (a series, I think). As far as I can tell, they’re not disconnecting cos they usually make a disconnection sound when that happens. I can listen to music on YouTube music on the watch no problems.

I do have a computer which I can sideload apks from (although I can just do that from my phone can’t I?). Not sure how to retrieve a logcat so might need guidance on how to do that if necessary.

Version on the watch says 1.0.1a (9008)

I don’t think you can from the phone to the watch but not sure.

To see if logcat can help, can you try to reproduce when the watch is plugged to the USB charger jus to be sure.

Else I’ll try adding a logger to the wear app.

Do you mean I should put the watch on the charging puck and try to reproduce while it’s charging?

Mine does the same thing on every other song with my Pixel 3 watch. At 1min and 4sec it pauses. I then skip to the next song and go back to the previous song to start over with no issues. Same thing if I skip back to the previous song and skip forward again it will play with no issues. The next song plays complete with no issues and then the following song stops at 1min and 4 seconds into it. I leave my phone in the gym locker or car when working out. LTE shows full signal. Bluetooth is always connected. Media provider Plex through Synology NAS.

I should also mention that if I leave symfonium in this state and don’t kill the app or get playback going again it starts to deplete the battery rapidly

Yes that’s what I meant if you can repro while plugged on. in that case logcat would be enough and I don’t need to write a on of code for the log + upload system.

I’ve noticed that as well. I’ll remember to kill the app going forward until this issue is resolved. Thanks.

The questions to him are valid for you too

Do you have a PC to gather logs and can you reproduce when plugged in the charger ?

I can reproduce while plugged into the charger. How do I go about obtaining the logs with PC?

See Android Logcat - How To as the easy way

Not sure it will be enough with current version, but I can send you a debug version tomorrow or a little later.

Okay that looks easy enough … but do I do these steps with the phone or watch in debug mode and connected to computer?
