No more media control in google maps navigation

Issue description:

There used to be a small media bar when navigating showing play/pause, skip, track name etc.

I’m digging around online, looks like google has removed functionality yet again and have a new way of doing it.

I’m surprised this isn’t a more relevant question, I can only see one support post about this (Controls disappeared in Maps/Drive since 27/4/2025 update)

In order to have a media app show up it needs to be available in google maps settings – tap profile > settings > navigation > enable “Show media playback controls”, and check “Default media app”. Youtube music is there by default, and spotify shows up if installed.

From what I can tell, an app needs to be android auto media compatible in order to be listed under that setting. I believe this is the relevant developer documention:

I’ve bought a whole 2 phone apps in my lifetime, and Symfonium is on that list. Its just so nice and deserves the credibility it has. Please look into fixing this little feature

There’s nothing I can fix on my side there’s many threads all over Internet about Google breaking this for most apps.

The app is fully Android Auto compatible.

You need to ask Google to bring back the feature.

Yes I did notice this for other apps, including my old player AIMP.

Thank you for letting me know, I’ll raise this with google
