Navidrome can display disc name/subtitle, which can provide interesting information or context if/when tagged.
It’s not an indispensable feature, but that could be nice
Please provide more details and logs during sync with navidrome to see if it’s there. But if I understand the request I doubt I’ll support that as no other provider would support it.
LMS also supports it.
And apparently the opensubonic API too.
I also agree it’s not indispensable but it’s useful with album reissues with a lot of bonus discs.
I think displaying it next to the disc number on the track list would be nice.
It was just added to the API give it some time. And it’s the only provider supporting it.
Hi,
I was going to submit a new feature request but I found this existing one.
I’d like to upvote this one, although in my particular case the data would be retrieved from the local device using the ID3 tag called TSST:
https://picard-docs.musicbrainz.org/en/appendices/tag_mapping.html#disc-subtitle
The use case for me is classical music where tracks are usually grouped by acts like:
Album: The Four Seasons
- CD 1: Spring
- 01 - allegro
- 02 - largo
- 03 - allegro
- CD 2: Summer
- 01 - allegro
- 02 - adagio
- 03 - presto
etc
Can we reconsider?
Just bumping this request, that would be nice if it could be implemented
+1 on this from me. Multi-disc album metadata has long been an issue everywhere but Disc Subtitle at least gets you some functionality until somebody develops a better way to do this (issue is more multi-album box sets than multi-disc albums).
I always separate multi-album sets into the individual albums. But of course that does not work automatically with MusicBrsinz.
Yeah that’s the problem. Ideally, you’d like a digital version to function like a physical version. A box set should sit on the top layer with box set title and artwork and individual albums should sit beneath with album titles and artwork. Disc subtitle gets you the individual title experience somewhat although when played, it simply displays the box set title. There’s really no good solution out there and MusicBrainz decided to just give up caring and went with disc subtitle only despite the drawbacks.
They consider the box one release, which is correct from the commercial point of view (Discogs does the same). You have to decide for one entity as being the main container. If they would have separated the release container from the disc(s), then the majority of submissions would need a release container which adds no information over the single disc. Or you need a very complex data structure that sometimes is based on the single disc, and sometimes not.
All that is why I struggle in general with automated tagging. There is no way for me to have a collection tagged the way I want without a lot of manual intervention.
I also split box set.
But still, naming discs for multi discs albums is useful
