Composer tag - album list is empty

Issue description:

Hi
This app is great, but I have a problem when browsing by the composer tag - the album list is empty and the screen says “nothing to display…”. Browsing by genre and by album artist displays an album list as expected.

I should add that all filters are turned off.

Additional information:

For info, I use the composer tag idiosyncratically to mimic physical shelves, so the details of the tags are:
“1. To play shelf”
“2. New album shelf”
etc. This shouldn’t affect functionality though (it doesn’t on any other programme I have that uses the composer tag)

Reproduction steps:

Enter library → press genres → album list is populated
Enter library → press composers → album list is empty

Please upload some of those files https://upload.symfonium.app and provide more details about how you tag those and what you try to achieve.

You mean upload the actual media files?

Yes so I can see what and how you tag them.

Just in case the upload doesn’t flag automatically - done.

Yes I’m not notified.

And everything works, are you using the Composer library entry to browse by composers?

I have composers in the main navigation menu at the bottom. If I press that directly, or if I press ‘library’ and then select composers from the library screen, it’s the same outcome.
I’ve just uploaded a couple more screenshots.

How do you reach that album list page? You have enabled the option to skip the artist page ?

OK, we are getting somewhere! It is related to the “skip artist details page” option.

  1. With that option set to Disabled:
  • selecting an albumartist in the library takes me to a page that lists albums and songs by that albumartist. I need to press albums to take me into a list of albums.
  • The same is true if I select composers.
  1. With the option set to “skip to albums”:
  • selecting an albumartist takes me directly to a list of albums by that albumartist.
  • if I select composer, the list of albums is blank.

Is it possible to get the composer tag to behave the same as albumartist? I want to go directly to an album list for a specific composer.

junkmarsh

Yes I can fix but why skip the artist page? If you hide the songs you have directly the albums and can group them by release type something you can’t do in the album list.

As far as I can see (correct me if I’m wrong), it is not possible to have a simple list of albums in the artist page, only grid. I much prefer lists.
Thanks

Yes not possible yet but you can make a feature requests.

I don’t actually need it if the composer fix is implemented. I have other feature requests
thanks for your help. Now I know the root of the problem, I at least have a workaround until the fix is implemented.

As I said at the start, I think this is a really great app.

Hello
Thanks for making the change so that the album list is now populated under the composer tag. I have found a different but I think related issue:

A) Select artist → select album from list of albums → on the album page (below cover, title and clickable artist button), the next line shows album duration and album year.
B) Do the same for composer and only album year is shown.

Are you able to add album year to the album page when coming from composer → album list?

Many thanks
junkmarsh

I think you mean “add total time”, because the album year is already there

IIRC I requested that as well when composers were introduced, but I think it is not possible due to how the database is built. This information is simply not there and too expensive to retrieve (in terms of computing power → battery and app responsiveness).

Once you reach the album you can also just remove the composer filter by pressing it in the track list and the duration will be there.

Thanks for the replies. The workaround of removing the filter is useful - does that mean it would be possible to show the album duration by default or is Splinter correct that it takes too much processing power?

As an alternative, would it possible for duration to be included in the second line of the album list page (so it becomes artist - year - duration), or does that have the same problem?

junkmarsh

He’s right and same problem. There’s a global album duration, but as soon as you add a filter the duration is not more true.
