Audio pops and crackles on some track changes

Issue description:

Hello,

Basically, when a track is changing, there will be a pop and/or crackle during the change. It does not happen on every track change, just some, but the ones it does happen on, it always happens on at the same part. I had this issue with PlexAmp on mobile too so I am thinking it is something with my phone, not sure what to change though.

I will not hear it when playing media from PlexAmp on PC, or when playing the source media directly. So it is just something with mobile.

I saw through Google someone was having the issue occur on all track changes, so worse than me, and that they fixed it by disabling internal decoding. I tried doing that and it didn’t solve it for me.

In the log file I will attach, it is a sample of the pop occurring, and it happens about 5 seconds into the audio playing.

Additional information:

Forgot to mention earlier, this also happens in the same spots whether it is from downloaded media or streamed.

Reproduction steps:

My phone is Samsung A54 5g.

Media provider:

In those logs the option prefer internal decoder is still enabled.

But if you have the same issue with other apps it’s probably the phone yes.

Seems that the audiotrack init triggers this. Check if you have some external EQ enabled, you can try to disable the option enable system EQ in Symfonium EQ configuration to reduce risks.
Or enable Symfonium EQ to ensure it’s the proper EQ applied and not something else.

Yeah I left internal decoding on for the log since it looked like that was recommended, and disabling didn’t fix it anyway.

My earbuds are Soundcore Life P3, they have a builtin EQ that can’t be disabled, but used Symfonium EQ figuring it overrides it. I still have the issue.

I can get you logs with internal decoder disabled if you want, but really do not expect you to fix it. This is my first time going non-flagship on Samsung, my phone is an A54, it is more or less a S9 so not great hardware. At first I thought maybe it was other processes occurring at the same time causing digital noise, but since it happens in the same spot I am no longer sure what the problem might be. Regardless, I don’t expect you to fix it, I just figured I’d check in case something obvious showed up.

Thanks for trying.

EDIT: I tried a set of wired earbuds, issue still there. Then thought to try Samsung Music - no pops. But have tried Musicolet, PlexAmp and now this and they have this issue. I can try contacting Samsung, but since it works fine on a firstparty app they might not be helpful. Samsung Music is really bad for sorting stuff though, plus it can’t connect to Plex, so I will still prefer something that does.

I have an A54, it runs Symfonium without problems (wired [through adapter] or BT headsets). So it cannot be a general platform issue.

In plexamp you can change the audio interface to OpenSL ES, as their option says, worth trying if you have audio issues. It will maybe workaround this for you.

I had tried that, did not solve. Samsung support gave me basic responses, like clearing cache and reinstalling. I will have to live with it.

If both modes in PlexAmp produce the same issue I’m as clueless as you.
