I’m using Symfonium (12.1.0 - 127352) from my Google Pixel 8a phone (android 15) in combination with Plex (running on a Synology).
I’m not sure since when but every half an hour my application just stops playing my queue. There is nothing I can do other then actually use the ‘Force stop’ option on my phone and restart the app (reconnect to Chromecast) before being able to continue playing music. Once a day I can live with (although actually not) but every half an hour is a bit too much.
I’ve checked the ‘don’t kill my app’ link suggestion but the Symfonium on my phone has the option ‘Allow background usage’ turned on - so it should not be closed by Android to save battery as far as I understand. I haven’t installed the DontKillMyApp yet because Google Pixel is not in your list and I like to restrict the number of apps being installed on my phone.
I’ve turned on ‘Debug mode’ so as soon as it as happened again I will send you the log files.
Maybe anyone already knows what is the problem, and even better, the solution! :D.
Basically the whole UI appears to work normal. There are no messages or whatsoever. Just pressing the play button just results in no activity. Disconnecting from chromecast and reconnecting doesn’t do anything. And also reconnecting to the library doesn’t make it work. Just killing the app and restarting helps.
I’ve tried now two days and I have a feeling that is solved or at least much improved given the new version.
I’ll keep an eye it and leave my debug logging turned on.
I’m afraid it’s me again. I just send some logging because again after 4 songs the player just stopped, had to kill the app and reconnect to the chromecast.
My situation changed a little bit. I’m using the application in combination with a JBL speaker (the actual reason I started using Symfonium cause Symfonium is the only one that managed this, using JBL with chromecast, in combination with Plex).
Other than that, I’m abroad now but still using the same IP-address to access the Plex database.
Oh and I’m using 12.2.0 (127378) now, but you probably can see all of this from the log I just send you.
From the logs the server was just quite slow to answer at that point and you killed the app during preparation. A skip next would have probably started the next item after some delay.
Ok, I’ll try next time to wait a little bit longer before doing anything… My feeling is that I wait some time before doing anything just because it always takes granddad (i.e. me) a little while before noticing that the music has stopped anyways…
But I’ll measure the time between noticing and pressing ‘Skip next’ (or anything else I try).
Thanks for your help
======
Ok, the app stopped going to the next song at 7.31, I waited until 7.33 and pressed ‘Skip next’ and indeed it jumped to the next song.
Next time I’ll press the ‘Skip next’ immediately and see what happens.
Keep you posted
btw
Not going to the next song automatically, as one would expect, is off course an indication that something is not working correctly so I’ll send the log anyway. Perhaps you can see what bump it withholds the system from going to the next song.
=====
I just send you another log…
It stopped playing the next song in the queue (which was from another album). I pressed ‘next’ and it played the next song. Pressing ‘back’ didn’t make the song play. Another ‘back’ played the previous song in the queue. Pressing ‘next’ still refused to play the song. Pressing ‘next’ again, it played the second song of the album. Putting the first song in the queue AFTER the second song which it was playing and pressing ‘next’ still refuses to play that song. Pressing ‘next’ again the third song played (and it appears to continue playing now). It just refuses tho play that one specific song for now…
I hope it helps you in any way. Maybe I’m really the only one in the world experiencing this, with my chromecast (JBL and Google hardware) and Plex combination. In that case, I’ll live with it If you want I can keep sending you loggings…
Tried this today but unfortunately didn’t help… the second song of the second album I tried to play today I had to skip. In between the first and the second album I put the song that wouldn’t play yesterday. It played without any problem, so it is not the song file itself that causes the problem.
I’ll send you the logging. It’s fine, there are worse things in life than this. I’ll just skip songs every now and then, no problem.
If there is someone who knows what causes the problem, I hope a solution can be found.
My guess it has to do with a glitch in the combination of playing Plex through Chromecast. I think this combination is just not the luckiest. I’ll try one of these days to add the songs locally stored on my phone and perform some tests…
BTW while writing this the whole playing of the queue has stopped, even forward and back buttons have no effect. Perhaps it is visible in the logging as well which I am about to send, but again my feeling it has to do with the Plex connection that is causing hick-ups.
Those are different, your server returns 404 for some media. Force a sync in Symfonium just in case then check Plex logs about why.
Then as there was nothing playing for a long time, the Chromecast stopped. The top cast icon was probably red and you’d need to reselect it to reconnect.
