Album Version No Longer Concatenating Into Single Album Title

Issue description:

Since updating to version 13.3, the Album title is no longer concatenating with the Album version as “ALBUM • VERSION”. You can still see the concatenation when viewing the album list in the artist page but it is only visible as a subtitle on the Album view page and not visible at all from the Now Playing page.

Enable the subtitle field on the album page.

Use a custom string with the album title and version tag on the now playing screen.

Problem solved? :man_shrugging: almost infinite customization you can use here.

%version% is currently not an acceptable value for a custom string. This also does not solve the issue of correctly showing the album title + version with external players such as Android Auto or Chromecast.

Sorry, albumversion is the tag. I did try it, and it doesn’t appear to be a valid string either. I would imagine that could be added fairly easily though.

Yeah I don’t mind the way it looks with the “subtitle” view on the album page. My preference would be to see it in all these views:

  • Artist Page (currently visible via concatenating)
  • Album Page (visible in new" “subtitle” view)
  • Now Playing (not currently possible as of 13.3, but custom string support would show this)
  • All Home Page views (not possible as of 13.3)
  • External players such as stereo head unit (not possible as of 13.3)

My preference would have been to get a thanks when implementing the feature  Seems we do not always get what we want

Anyway home and now playing are oversight and will be fixed, but the media session change is wanted as it break scrobbling.

Version is also missing from the Artist page in list view.

I did say thanks when it was added! A bunch actually!

Was the scrobbling broken on the past few versions? The media session displayed the ALBUM • VERSION perfectly fine for me and didn’t seem to have any issues scrobbling correctly still.

Well reading the thread it’s make a request then vanish, then complain you’ll have to retag after adding. The complain about change and want to rollback

And yes it caused scrolling issues since the start.

I’m going to just chalk this up to maybe a misunderstanding from a language barrier. “I’ve been looking forward to this one for well over a year!” 100% sounds like a thank you on my part and simply saying I’m going to go retag my library is not even remotely a complaint. I wrote that in excitement to try out the new feature. I even added a smiley face to try and make sure it didn’t come off as a complaint. Retagging took all of a 5 minute script that ran for an hour or 2, I wasn’t making a complaint.

Anyways, I looked at my last.fm scrobbles and I don’t see any issues with how it was scrobbling but perhaps Navidrome just handled everything well and other methods did not. So while the concatenation worked perfectly for me, my intention is not to break that functionality. I will try to think of another creative way to have the album version show in media players and create a new feature request if necessary.

Navidrome does not use the media session to scrobble so irrelevant

And BTW

No, the message does not directly sound like a thank you.
It expresses excitement, curiosity, and playful anticipation, but it doesn’t include any explicit or implicit gratitude toward the recipient. The tone is enthusiastic and positive, which might feel appreciative in spirit, but it isn’t framed as an acknowledgment or thanks.

Does not look like a language barrier.

Comment removed - not the place for me to overreact

Well no just checked if I missed something in the message and well all LLMs says like me. So instead of you actually be the dick here why don’t you enlightened me about what part of message is actually a thanks so I do not make the same mistake?

If someone is expressing excitement as a response to an action, gratitude should be inferred. Since it was not received that way, and I made the assumption that it was a showing of gratitude - I chalked it up it a mistranslation between both ends.

I will try to take this as a learning opportunity and be more straight forward with a thank you in the future.

I’ve edited my previous comment because this isn’t place for that and I apologize for getting defensive.

Also, thank you for all great work you’ve put into this app.

I, personally, am thankful for the addition of the subtitle…. I believe I thanked you on my feature request

I use subtitle extensively; it isn’t part of OpenSubsonic but I had to try it out.

How are you using subtitle? I believe it’s a track level attribute though I can’t get it to show in Symfonium (using local provider).

I don’t. I meant moving the album edition or version to a subtitle on the album page. But, the subtitle tag on a track, I would imagine, it more applicable to classical music than any other genre.

I use the subtitle tag to hold extra infomation not directly related to the track title; for example, Extended Mix, Radio Version, Live e.t.c

Ah, so you’re just referring to it being moved to a secondary line.

@Tolriq

In the Album page configuration what tag (when using a local provider) does ‘Subtitle position’ relate to?

That makes sense too. I just include that in the track title and use albumversion for the album version (as you may expected from the name), such as “MFSL SACD” “Remaster (2022 Sony)” etc.

Only version for now.
