I recently bought an AVR (Denon X1700H) and was disappointed to read about the faulty gapless implementation. This is a hard requirement for me and I’m willing to buy a receiver that supports this with Symfonium. Or if you’re willing to try to somehow support Denon’s faulty implementation somehow. Half the time, gapless works. The other half, it shows “Unable to play” on the receiver and skips the song.
I’ve read all the forum posts on this issue and most reporters are fine with disabling Gapless. If you would be so kind as to give me a more concrete alternative for those that cannot lose Gapless, I would be very appreciative! I love this application and would like it to work seamlessly with my sound system, even if that means buying a new receiver.
Thank you so much for reading my ticket. I’m sure it can be annoying hearing about the same issue.
Your log shows the Denon reporting the following song almost immediately after being asked to play the selected song. Symfonium then follows that reported change. Unfortunately, the receiver reports no error explaining why.
Please keep gapless enabled, enable “Proxy via Symfonium” in the Denon’s settings beside the cast device, reconnect, and collect another log. Include selecting the failing song and letting tracks transition naturally, noting when “Unable to play” appears.
I’ve completed two sets of logs, one without proxy and one with proxy. Both with gapless enabled. Overall, proxy had no gapless issues but had issues playing some songs. No proxy had the gapless issue (and has had issues tap-to-play in the past, just not during logging). I’m not convinced that the proxy solves gapless so I’ll have to do more listening, but from the extended playtest it looks like gapless works with proxy (just can’t tap-to-play sometimes).

Played Catalan Folk, gapless worked until it skipped No. 15 “Unable to play” and receiver started playing Espana but app switching back and forth between No.15 and Espana until the next song Danzas plays.

Catalan Folk plays with gapless fine, tap to play Predule No. 1 but Unable to Play track so skips to No. 34 with same switching back and forth in app. Fixes itself next song, all gapless works fine. Tap to play Predule No. 1 with no issue. Gapless works. Tap to play Catalan again. No problems and gapless works. Tap to play Premier Livre. No problems and gapless works. Raise volume because this is a great track. Tap to play Deuxieme Livre. Unable to play track. Receiver plays Nouvelles Suites and app switches back and forth. Fixes itself next song with gapless working.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve updated and it has fixed the frequency of the issues. I can listen to an entire album without missed songs with gapless playback (for the most part). Unfortunately, it still happens albeit more rarely; there were a couple times where the song skips but the app simply follows the receiver and no longer goes back and forth. Also, the first song upon connecting to the receiver is often skipped. Would you like me to collect logs?
My apologies for the delay. The new update fixed gapless playback from my testing, thank you so much! Only one problem remains and it’s the beginning of the cast. When I cast to my AVR, the first song is consistently skipped.
Thanks for confirming gapless playback is working. I found the startup skip in your log: the Denon reports the second track immediately after Play, and Symfonium follows that report. It doesn’t report an error explaining why.
Please keep gapless enabled and try casting while the first track is still playing locally, without pausing first. Does that avoid the skip?
