Making the album type “Album” appear in the “About” rows on the Album page
Problem solved:
I’ve tested tags to make use of the album type info in the “About” section on the album page. As far as I found out, Symfonium uses the releasetype tag. Currently, Symfonium seems to treat the value “Album” in the releasetype tag differently from other values like “EP” or “Compilation”. The latter two are displayed in the “About” section but with the value “Album”, no info about the album type is displayed at all.
Brought benefits:
We could make explicitly clear that the currently viewed album is a “normal” album and also directly go to all “normal” albums via the hyperlink.
Other application solutions:
Spotify labels “normal” albums as “Album”, just as I’d prefer to do in Symfonium.
Additional description and context:
My current workaround would be to label all “normal” albums with the value “Original album”, though simply being able to use “Album” would be cleaner.
I reported this here cause I thought it was an issue but actually is by design, textual Tolriq’s answer was “if it’s a simple album it’s not shown as useless information.” But i have found another workaround if you want respect release hierarchy (show albums first) otherwise 'Original Albums" will show up at bottom.
If you tag your files Release Type as “Albums” will respect such hierarchy and Symfonium’s system will detect them as “normal” albums
I do already realize that it’s programmed like that by design, not by accident. And there would be multiple workarounds like yours and mine. However, I would love to have a consistent logic of labeling the release types. In my opinion, omitting the “Album” label as useless actually contradicts the logic of categories we have with shortcuts on the Home page:
Albums (only “normal” original album releases)
Compilations
All albums (includes “normal” albums AND compilations)
EPs (or even Singles) are not available as such shortcuts (as of now), but I find that the logic behind Albums vs. All albums still confirms my thought behind the request. And like I said, Spotify applies the same logic.
Because people do not understand those tags and what it does, everything is an album if it’s not a compilation, this means albums with the album release tag or without.
When the release tag is empty then it’s hidden no problem, but when it only have album and you get the album filter to click then it will only show albums with the actual album release tag and not those without, and users complains and do not understand
I’ll reactivate and you’ll both deal with the incoming support
I think I see the problem you’re explaining. It’s not a problem for me, as I tag my own files consistently and would never have the tag empty. But for others it can sometimes cause issues and confuse them.
Maybe it would be technically possible/feasible to make the filter always include both (value “album” and value empty) when you filter by “album”?
