Transcoding on Mobile: Bitrate higher than necessary

Issue description:

I have Mobile Maximum bitrate set to 192 kbps.

I have been led to believe that when the bitrate exceeds this, it should transcode to OGG/Opus at 128 or 256kbps?

When I play FLAC files, according to the Tautulli display, it transcodes at 538kbps which is way higher than necessary.

I also have cases (see the last track in the logs I uploaded) where an MP3 file that was well above 192kbps (282 in this case) that did not transcode.

Reproduction steps:

I play tracks known to be above Mobile Max Bitrate and watch what shows up on the Tautulli dashboard and on the codec information on Symfonium now playing page.

Well they still don’t have fixed their shit that they where supposed to fix in 1.41.8.9834

Check plex logs and transcoding logs on their side and see that everything should work but at the last second they pass the wrong value to the transcode engine.

This app cannot play this item. The reason is: audio.bitrate limitation applies: 260 > 192.

All is correct from Symfonium POV, the decision is transcode with the proper bitrate, but then they do not respect it somehow.

Thanks. When I get time I’ll dum the plex logs while this is happening and raise it on the Plex suppport site.

Can you post a link to the plex post when you opened so others can follow and jump in if they face that too ?

Haven’t posted yet because I have been slammed, and need Plex server logs as well. But I will post here when I have done.

Hmm. The same bug is reported as being fixed in the PMS Beta 1.41.9.9912-371133ff9

  • (Bandwidth) Transcode request bandwidth was not being reported (PM-3430)

I guess I am going to wait until that becomes general release and test again.

Reported is the wrong word it seems unrelated and tied to another issue they wanted to fix in 1.48.

Should really be reported to be sure they fix it fast.
