Tracks/Albums Not Showing For Some Artists

Device: Sony Walkman NW-A306
OS: Android 14
Symfonium Version: 11.4.0
Media Provider: Local Device > Split Albums by: Album Artist (other options unticked, not sure if this is helpful info)

Hi there,

I am new to Symfonium, and I am having an issue that I believe is more of a problem with the metadata in my library than the app itself. Whilst reading through entries on support in an attempt to find my answer I concluded that it is safer to just post a query than try and describe in the general chat without any screenshots/logs etc.

I have been running my library through MB Picard to assign the correct Metadata and album art to my library. The folder structure of my library is: Artist > Album > Songs, with the exception to Compilations and Various Artists albums with the structure being: Compilation (or Various Artists) > Album > Songs.

I am looking for clarification on is how Symfonium determines whether an album will appear under an artist’s name or not? Which Metadata entry determines whether it appears under artist?

For example (please refer to screenshot) you can see that for the album “Deadpool & Wolverine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack”, Track 2 is “Bye Bye Bye” by “*NSYNC”. However, it does not appear under the Artist > *NSYNC.

It does however appear under Artists > Various Artists > Deadpool & Wolverine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which is strange as that would mean the “sort” would be Album Artist but both “Artist” entries in the metadata are for “*NSYNC”, not “Various Artists” and this is the “Artist” tab, not the “Album Artist” tab.

Having the settings “Appears On” and “Top Tracks” under the Artist Page Settings ticked to on does not seem to make a change.

In MB Picard (please refer the screenshot) you can see that the entries that usually affect sorting in other player apps is:

Artist: *NSYNC
Album Artist: Various Artists
Album Artist Sort Order: Various Artists
Artist Sort Order: NYSNC
Artists: *NSYNC

So, I tried changing all of these entries to various combinations, replacing “various Artists” trying *NSYNC/NSYNC/Leaving the entry blank.

The only thing that worked, and placed the song under the artist’s name was leaving both the “Album Artist” and “Album Artist Sort Order” fields blank in MB Picard, saving, and then re-uploading the song and re-syncing. The problem with this though is it then splits the album under the albums section and will return multiple album entries under search.

I have been looking through support entries, and the wiki but cannot seem to work how I make Symfonium not split the albums and place Artist’s associated songs/albums under the artist section like other media players? It seems to be sorting them by Album Artist, not purely Artist, but I could just not be understanding correctly?

TLDR: I know I’m doing something wrong, I just can’t figure out what.

Any input and help greatly appreciated. If I need to provide any further info/screenshots let me know and I will upload. Thank you in advance.

An artist is not an album artist that’s the base difference.

So it’s normal that if that album artist is X it’s only shown as album from X, the track artists are participant to the albums only.

Can be found via appears on sections for example.

Thank you for coming back to me. Gotcha, so help me understand here, I have “Show Appears On” ticked on under the artist page settings (please refer to screenshot), and as you suggested it should be showing. What am I doing wrong or what setting have I not selected that could be causing it not to show under the artist *NSYNC above in the Artists tab?

Just checked to be sure I’m not missing a step, and the “appears on” doesn’t show for *NSYNC under the Compilation Artist tab, and *NSYNC doesn’t show under the “Album Artist” tab for obvious reasons.

Show the actual NSYNC artist page. That option does not makes albums artists change

Thanks, I think where my confusion currently resides is that the above screenshot of the artist *NSYNC is in the “Artist Page” (as i understand it), not the “Album Artist” page, set by using Interface > Homepage > Shortcuts > Homepage Shortcuts > “Artists” ticked. Then navigating to Homepage > Artists > *NSYNC > “Nothing To Display”.

When you say “Show the actual Artist page” am I to understand that “Artists” on the Homepage Shortcuts is showing Album Artists? Coz I tested the “Album Artists” Shortcut too and *NSYNC does not appear in there.

Can you please clarify for me, and instruct me how to navigate to the “Actual Artist Page” that will show the “Appears On” and show the tracks. Thanks.

Artist page is when you click on an artist name

Unless of course you changed the settings to skip the artist page :wink: Interface/Navigation

Thanks Tolriq :wink:, that was the issue. I had at some point ticked the setting to go straight to album thinking I’d save time. I figured it was gonna be a single tick box somewhere. I appreciate the support.
