I am literally in awe of the sheer pristine nature of this app.
The logo is so clever, looks so good so bloody big up there in the corner. Material Design implementation is pristine as well. Every layout and every detail is just complete in a way that so many apps are not, because those apps don’t use a complete design system, just decent designers who put things together with like no cohesion. Also shit performance LMAO.
Some people may not care about nice UI/UX, but I am someone who does, enough that I go ahead and try to design my own UI/UX for the culture. It’s also my job. But I mainly do it for the culture. This is hands down the most evolved implementation of the latest Material Design iteration I’ve ever seen, and it makes me excited to use this app to integrate with my homelab and move away from reliance on google. I wasn’t impressed by Material Design’s fun, upbeat concepts and quirky aesthetic trajectory until I saw this app. GOLLY its good stuff.
I literally cannot find a flaw in the app, other than like petty preference things.
Aside from that, I was convinced a while back and strongly defend today that making useful things beautiful does actually make them better. Beauty exists because it is built into us, and when we make just the right design decisions, we attract and engage whatever it is in our brains that locks into symmetry, pattern, contrast, balance, and other principles of art and design, which kind of give you a rough guidebook of what things are beautiful to us. Whatever it is in our brains that locks into all that definitely helped our ancestors survive for millions of years.
This app is a masterclass in just honing something into exactly what it needs to be, all from a complete design system that could bring the whole android ecosystem together if only they were as pristine as symfonium. Cool name too.
AND the fact that this thing is jam HECKING packed with features and customization, I literally could not look away until I had scrolled every menu. U guys are insane.
ALSO: THE RANDOM FEED ON HOMEPAGE. I didn’t know I had a favorite algorithm until I laid eyes on that. Its so refreshing being in an environment, that in some small way, does not give a fuck about me. Its random, it literally cannot give a fuck about me, and that’s a comforting thing when I’m surrounded by services and algorithms trying to predict and preempt what I’m gonna do.
I cannot stress deeply enough how much I care about good design, and how glad I am that something like this exists.
