Syncing taking forever

Issue description:

Hi there,
I’m brand new to Symfonium and just downloaded the app to try it out before buying to see if it works, as I’m also currently transferring all my cds to my google drive before I get rid of them. I’m a bit nervous of how long the actual process might take as I’m only on the letter E of my albums and stopped to let Symfonium catch up but it’s been maybe an hour or more and it’s still not synced. It’s currently saying scanning files tags: 2655 (and obvs changing every second) I have afair few cds but not that many! Are the files tags the artwork etc too that show in my google drive? Sorry, I’m so ignorant over this stuff. I googled how long it should take to sync and it said seconds to minutes - not hours. I guess I’m just nervous that it will take days to sync, once I upload everything to the drive and that if I ever add anything, it will scan through everything again taking forever. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance, really appreciate any help you can give me (in laymans terms please!)

The number is the number of audio files not the number of albums.

The Google sync is relatively slow as Google API is insanely slow those days. But the data is cached so it’s only done once, after that only the new files are scanned.

Ok, thanks. It’s actually just finished so I have been able to play a song from my phone using the app. It takes a few seconds before the song starts. Is that normal?

Yes as said Google API is very slow :frowning:

This won’t be a problem between songs as things are pre loaded, and If you enable playback cache songs recently played are cached on the device.

Thanks for all your help

Had misorganized a bunch of my folders in gdrive. Everything was synced and running, I realized I needed to move some folders around. Symfonium wouldn’t seem to pick up the new file paths up on checking under track details.

So I nuked it and started over. Now it’s several hours scanning tags, and the Google drive in filters says sync queued. Isn’t this scanning of tags the actual sync happening?

Why am I seeing two full syncs of tags? The one that had to finish before the queued sync actually started this morning. And now that it is syncing it shows scanning tags again.

Further. Is there any logic to first check for file structure changes to find moved songs, etc? Or how does it recognize moved files? I’m sure I’ll need to move things around here and there in the future.

Thanks in advance

Open your own issue with tags …

Queued means it’s not running. Force kill the app just in case.

Don’t mind to open new issues, but don’t want to trigger the same long gdrive sync just to generate the log. I assume you require that on new cases…

I can’t answer anything without logs, I’m not magician.

Extracted data is cached based on filename, if you move 100% of your files then it will scan all again.

I’ll just wait for the rescan to complete. If problem arises on a file or two, I’ll log it and open a case.
