Symfonium does not discover Chromecast devices

App version

Production

Issue description

When open the cast menu in Symfonium, the only available option for me is “local device”. My TV with Chromecast built in is not getting discovered. Casting to this TV works fine from other applications such as Immich and Youtube.

App version: Android 14.1.0 build 127734
OS: GrapheneOS 2026081301
TV: TCL C635

Symfonium has all possible permission granted to it. Battery optimisation is disabled. I have even deleted the app and reinstalled it from scratch.

Device type

Phone

Media provider

Jellyfin

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open application,
  2. Click on the cast menu,
  3. Android TV with Chomecast built in is not there.

Additional information

If it matters, the TV is in a separate VLAN and I use avahi-daemon to reflect mdns traffic. However, if this were the issue, the other apps would not be able to discover the TV as well, which is not the case.

Try in the same VLAN to see, Symfonium fully relies on Google code and Play Services with nothing custom.

Put the TV in the same VLAN as the phone just to eliminate the network variable completely - the problem remains.

Then probably something incompatible in the Play Services of your Graphene OS with the last libs from Google.

Yes, seems to be the case. I’ll ask on the grapheneos forum and post the link here if we find a solution. Thank you for the quick reply.

The problem was indeed with Google Play services on GrapheneOS. Toggling the nearby devices for Google Play services off and then back on solved the issue. If this doesn’t help, one can try installing Google Home application but for me re-adding the nearby devices permission was enough.
