Splitting Artist exemptions/exclusions

Feature description:

We should be able to exempt/exclude some artists from being split because some artists like “Tyler, The Creator” would have symbols in their names that are used to split artists even though they are a singular artist (in this case a comma). Another example would be “Sly & The Family Stone” having an ampersand symbol in their name even though it’s the name for a singular band and not multiple artists.

Problem solved:

It would declutter the artists page and remove redundancies.

Brought benefits:

Artists that aren’t supposed to be split would retain their singular name.

Other application solutions:

Namida supports this as well as other streaming platforms

I use these as artist delimiters
" | "
", "
"Ft. "
" & "

Artists Like Dawkins & Dawkins or Earth, Wind & Fire

I’ve changed the & to and but it would be nice to have some exceptions I feel like no matter what delimiters I use there’s always a few outliers

This is a duplicate. If you use proper tags with multiple artists, there’s no need for split characters and so no issue

I’m confused. Because the issue is that I use commas to split but it also splits Tyler, The Creator because he also has a comma in his name. And he’s one artist not two. He just has a comma in his name, so it splits. And I don’t want that to happen cuz it even affects the last fm bio

Don’t use coma to split ?

Use proper multiple tags that support multiple artists and do not require splitting.

That wouldn’t be fair especially when I have a lot of artists that are split with commas for last fm scrobbling reasons. For example:

Use that value as artist, don’t use splits, use multiple artists <— see the s … tags and magic you are using proper tags and don’t have split issues

I’m confused, how do I do that?

Use a proper tag editor that support multi valued tags.

That would unfortunately be too tedious for me considering my large library and the actual amount of artists that are split using commas, (~55 %). This method would rather just be better to mitigate a few artists rather than a whole huge library.

Library size:

This is a very small library.

But let me resume this, you passing a couple of hours to fix your tags is too tedious, but me passing a lot more hours coding something and maintaining it for free for you is not tedious? (Even looking for duplicate request was too tedious  )

Let’s say I lower my daily rate to 600$, since this is at least a couple of days, are you willing to pay 1200$ + taxes for this feature?

Try “TagScanner” editor, as it enables you to implement large scale changes with a single click, once you’ve made the required adjustments in the transformation tab.

Look, I understand that coding is more than strenuous especially for an app of this size and feature set. But I just thought this would be a useful feature, especially since it’s for an issue that would only affect a small handful of artists. That being said though I would understand if you don’t want to implement this feature, however I would really appreciate it you do. Also for the record, I do promise that I tried searching for a duplicate request, I just didn’t see it (most probably searched for the wrong thing).

General question @Tolriq

Does using a different delimiter effect Last Fm Scrobbling? If so can that be fixed?

@darkwiiingduck
You can also use MP3TAG for this which would allow you to make those changes in mass.

The only delimiters I can’t give up are
"Ft. "
" | "
For me this tells me quickly if I have a remix artist or featured artist which is useful info to me. The others just sit between artist names

I think I just like the look of my other delimiters commas and & feel more natural to me than semicolons but im not hard pressed to keep them.

If you do decide to make the changes & use mp3tag I’m more than happy to share the actions I create which would streamline alot of the work.

PS: I think 26K is substantial considering my library is ⅕ the size but… there’s always a bigger fish

That’s question for the scrobbler app. Pano have many tools to help.
