I’ve been using Mp3tag v3.33.1 to organize my albums but no matter which tags I use it isn’t impacting.
I have tried adjusting the fields ARTISTSORT, ALBUMARTIST, ALBUMARTISTSORT, ALBUMSORT, TITLESORT, ALBUM on the files to fudge trying to get “The Beatles” to show under B.
I have tried sorting my “Title”, “Sort title”, “Display artist”, and “Display artist, Year”. when sorting as Display artist it only sorts by the ALBUM tag, but this then puts “the beatles” under T, despite the fact that in the artists page they show up under B.
When I sort by title or sort title it only uses the ALBUM tag.
I have been ensuring I resync for every change (checking this by incrementing a number at the end of the albumartist so i can see they have changed to “the beatles 3” in both the album and artist pages). I have ensured that “advanced → Databse → Ignore articles for sort names” is checked.
I also shared a log with support rsyncing and going to the album page and trying all 4 sort methods mentioned earlier.

What I truly want is that when I sort my albums by “Display Artist, year” that this sorting ignore articles of the display artist name. Then I was trying to work around that by changing any of the sort tags. What I’m trying to show is that none of the sort tags affect the sorting in the album page. As I was trying to either change the artist sort to “Beatles” so that when doing display artist sort they show up in B or to change the Album’s sort name to be “Beatles 2000” so that when i used sort titles the album shows up in B and i would spoof all my albums to sort under the artist name. I just need to have some way that when i sort my albums by artist (or try to fudge it through another sort tag) it sorts without articles while keeping the artist name displaying with the articles at the beginning. But none of the sort tags seem to have any impact on how an album shows up in any of the sorts that can be selected in the album page
The sort is called display artist for a reason, yes the sort title is not handled in those cases because you can have multiple artists, there’s a couple discussions around that already.
I’m aware that there are several discussion around this. I do think it contradicts that when artists are sorted it removes articles for that sort, but for albums it doesn’t
But, since i was aware of this, i was trying to get around this some how by using the sort title of the album itself. But “title” and “sort title” do not sort any differently no matter which tag i use. is there a different tag i should be using that “sort title” is using as none of the fields listed in Mp3tag seem to have any impact.
i just don’t understand the inconsistency that if the artists are sorted based on the “album artist” tag on the artists page, and that page removes articles. why are articles not removed when sorting albums by the “album artist”. i get that an album with multiple artists may get split but those two artists on one page show sorted without the article, but then when it’s on the album page the articles stay for sorting?
I have been using navidrome, and you are suggesting that it is not properly supporting the API and so that’s why sort title doesn’t work. do you have any other suggestions for services that do properly send that API?
