Songs are silent and stop playing after a few seconds

Edit: Problem is fixed by disabling offload mode in Settings/Playback/Decoding and transcoding.

Issue description:

Songs are silent and the track stops “playing” after 4-6 seconds. The progress bar and elapsed time stop as well, the play button does not change as if it were still playing. Tapping back will get the song to restart and play normally. Hitting next will allow the next song to play normally. After the track has ended the following song will once again be silent and the progress bar and elapsed time stop moving at around 4-6 seconds. Synced lyrics will continue progressing as normal though. Trying to make a screen recording with audio prevents this issue from happening, recording with audio will allow the issue to persist.

All music is hosted locally on the device as MP3 files.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Open Symfonium
  2. Play anything so more than one song is in the playlist.
  3. Let the entire song play through or skip to the end with the scrubber.
  4. Next song starts “playing” silently. After 4-6 seconds the progress bar stops moving and the elapsed time stops.
  5. Press back to get the song working or press next to play the next song normally. Once the current/next song has finished playing normally, you’ll be back at step 4.

And disable offload mode it’s probably a bug in Android.

Switching offload mode to disabled has fixed the issue. No songs have stopped playing with it disabled. When I enabled offload again songs immediately stopped working. Disabling it again while a song was stalled made it immediately start playing.

Can you generate an Android bug report https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/bug-report just after reproducing the issue? (With Symfonium debug mode on) so I can try to forward to Google.

Well, not sure what’s going on now or what changed. I’ve been trying to reproduce it since yesterday and it hasn’t happened.. If it pops up again I’ll get you the bug report and fresh log.

It started happening again, but slowly.. It started with one song here and there, but hitting previous or scrubbing to the end of the track would just get everything working normally again. It would work for a few hours and then one more song would have an issue. Then a couple songs would have the issue and go back to normal. It’s still not currently happening on every song like before but it happened a few times in a row while generating the report/log so hopefully the issue will be visible. Both are now uploaded.
