Song Search Showing Blank Results

App version

Production

Issue description

When searching for a particular song, occasionally two versions of the song will appear in the search results. This blank result will have the title, artist, and release year of the song, but will not have the name of the album or an album picture.

Selecting this blank entry in the results will play the next song in the results — which is usually the correct song — however, the presence of this blank entry throws off the order of the other results. To play to correct song, you have to click on the blank result. If you click on the fully populated result, it will play the song that appears below it; and so on and so forth until you click on one song in the results and it plays a song six entries below it.

In the attached images, the image depicting the search results also shows what happens when I clicked on the first result. It played the entry below it.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the application.
  2. Search for either a particular song or conduct a general search and view the generated ‘Tracks’ results.
  3. Observe the unpopulated song entry as a part of this generated list and attempt to play either that song or one beneath it.
  4. Observer that the track you just selected will not play, it will likely be one under it.

Additional information

This issue has persisted across several re-syncs with my server and only present in the general overall search function. Attempting to recreate this withing a playlist does not cause this issue to occur.

When inspecting this unpopulated entry, it claims that the, “[Unknown] media provider is currently offline”.

Please note, I currently have my media provider server set up with Tailscale and associated with 2 IP addresses (one for when I’m remote and one for when I’m on its local wifi). I bring this up as it could possibly be a reason for this issue. I have not currently investigated this theory.

Go to advanced settings then cleanup internal state.

It’s almost comical how this immediately fixed my problem. Thank you very much!

Is this something that happens naturally and needs occasional maintenance, or is this something I accidentally created and can avoid?

It should not happen, but on some device and sqlite version an app kill during a provider removal even in a transaction can leave the provider removed without having ran the triggers.
