Shuffle only favourites from an artist

Feature description:

Currently on the artist page there exists an ability to shuffle or create a personal mix of artist’s tracks. The proposed feature would add another button to create a shuffle of only those tracks by this artist that are marked as favorites.

Problem solved:

The already existing features of the app are capable of achieving a similar result by creating a smart playlist and filtering by favorites and the desired artist. However in a large library it is often quite tedious to create such playlists for each artist. Additionally this approach adds some mental overhead because you have to remember that you need to navigate into your playlist section and look for the artist playlist there (or create a new one) which can be made even more cumbersome by the playlist ordering and the number of already existing playlists. There’s also no way to go directly from an artist’s page to such playlist.

Brought benefits:

Now a user will be able to easily play all favorite tracks from an artist.

Yes, this actually works. Thanks. I haven’t realized this feature existed. Probably because the main shuffle and mix buttons are displayed so prominently in the artist’s page and this method requires scrolling almost to the very bottom of the page and then doing several taps to enable the filter.

You can configure everything  You can put the tracks at the top, you can skip the artist page all together also.

I see you have already closed the feature request, so perhaps what I’m about to ask should be better written as a separate request. But it has to do with your proposed solution, so I’ll do it here.

I’ve tried to use the filtered top tracks feature that you mentioned. My initial problem with this was that the list is placed too far down the page. This was fixed by looking through the settings as you’ve suggested as well. The next issue was the number of tracks shown. I prefer the albums part be kept close to the top for ease of searching through them visually, however the default 15 track top tracks section took up the whole screen. This was also fixed by looking through the settings, although it’s impossible to completely hide all tracks I’ve left it at 3, similar to how Spotify shows you a short list of popular tracks (I haven’t used the app in a long while but I believe it was also 3 tracks on mobile). Such arrangement however presents another issue.

From the UX side of things, it seems to me that the most natural way for a user to play their top songs would be tapping on any of the already presented (one of the 3 in my case). However this creates a queue of only the visible songs (which is a similar behavior to how the search in playlists works when there’s more than one track matching the search), which is, frankly, rather annoying as it would just loop the 3 tracks. As it turns out, in order to achieve the behavior that I want, I need to go into the top tracks menu and play the songs from there, which doesn’t seem intuitive as my previous experience has suggested.

Is it possible to implement a feature where tapping any of the presented top tracks from the short list would play the whole artist queue and not just the short list? I also think that this would mesh really nicely with an already existing feature of the top tracks section. Namely, that you can select a “Favorites” source for it in the settings (while I’m here, it would also be nice to add another source that combines both the “Most played” and “Favorites” sources, or at the very least sort the existing “Favorites” source by play count in descending order). As I’ve stated I believe this would be a more intuitive experience.

Admittedly, this solution would still have an annoying quirk in that the first track of your queue in would always whatever you have clicked on and for people who keep this section small that track would almost always be the same or close to always being the same.

As I’ve stated at the beginning, I’ll happily open separate feature requests for the proposed new behavior if there’s a point in doing so i. e. if you’d like to implement them.

Top songs is just a sort of all the songs in most cases.

And yes clicking on a song in a list queues what’s visible in the list as expected.

We are talking about gaining one click here.

We kinda are…

Thanks for the reply nonetheless.
