Shield Android TV - Rebooting when selecting backup location

Issue description:

When trying to select a backup location (local USB SSD), Symfonium kicks off a drive redetection followed (mostly) by a reboot. Whenever a setting is selected that requires access to a connected USB drive it causes much the same symptoms but more often when trying to set a backup location.

I was told that nothing can be done as it is the Android OS that handles these functions but with all other apps that require drive access ( file managers, Kodi, Plex etc), this doesn’t happen. Anyway, I sent a log file when this occurred.

In addition, maybe the log will also show a navigation problem that I experienced at the same time, although probably unrelated. The D-Pad and Shield RC lost access to the data shown to the right of the menus, this happened when I selected “System Light/Dark” mode, changing from “Dark” mode and still hasn’t recovered in spite of closing/opening Symfonium, Force Stopping, rebooting the Shield and powering off for 30 minutes.

The most annoying aspect is having to use a mouse to access the data on the right side (albums, library artists etc). Of course I understand this is beta SW, but it is potentially the best music access app and I hope these bugs can be addressed in time I have paid the subscription because of this.

Logs:

Upload description: Nidia Shield drive/file access and navigation problem.

Additional information:

Reproduction steps:

On Nvidia Shield, attempt to access and set a backup location.
Unsure of how to instigate the navigation problem as it seems to be random, but last occured (and is still) when changing the interface theme.

Media provider:

Local device

Screenshots:

There’s is no API named please reboot that shield  So I know you won’t believe me but there’s nothing I can do for the shield errors. All I use is the API at my disposal.

Other apps have the ALL_FILE_ACCESS permission and not required to use SAF.

So as asked properly describe the navigation issue you faced with screenshots and details as I can’t repro from your description.

And there’s no subscriptions

Sorry if I’ve offended you, I was simply trying to understand why there’s nothing that can be done. I still don’t understand but am happy to accept what you’re stating.

I don’t understand your reference to a “named API”, while debugging was enabled the system rebooted a number of times, involuntary and otherwise, so rebooting again won’t give any additional data I’m sure, but I’ll do another debug, reboot and send the file… if that’s what you mean?.

Sorry (again), if my explanation was not sufficient, hopefully the attached screenshots and further explanation will help.

When using the Shield Bluetooth RC, it is normally possible (when bug not presenting) to move the cursor from left to right i.e. from the menu (red circle) press OK to select the menu item (All Albums) then move to the right panel and select an album and press OK to activate/play that album, (screenshot Symfonium_1.jpg). When the problem occurs, although the cursor moves up and down to each menu item, selecting and pressing OK highlights the menu item but does nothing else and does not access the right panel. The same is true with a smart phone’s DPad app.

Shown in the second screenshot (Symfonium_2.jpg) using a hard-wired mouse, the cursor has selected the menu item and can be seen selecting the “10cc” album in the right panel, if I left click the mouse the album is activated. The same is true with a smart phone’s track pad app.

Let me know if I need to upload these screenshots to your sever…

OK, no subscription, but paid the one-off fee anyway. 🤨

Please be aware that I think this app is fantastic, the music sounds great, I hope it’s possible to iron-out the bugs to make it even better.

When you press select folder it just calls an OS intent. By default that intent have no apps associated on shield, so you have an app that handle those and it crash the OS.

Nothing I can do about it here.

For the second issue, you are not using a recent Android TV build as the interface does not look like that at all now.

How then does the Symfonium App successfully select and act on the Playing Now screen, everything on that right-hand panel works with the Shield bluetooth RC after being selected. How is that screen different from All Albums, Library, Artists etc. ? See attached for “Plating Now” screen and function acted-upon by the Shield RC (Track info highlighted), just so you know which one I am referring to (dark mode selected, different from the previous screen shots).

The App is the latest (newest) available on the Play store for Android TV and it’s stated as “pre-release” supported by the less-than-one version number (0.9.10 - 227482)… do you have a later version that isn’t on the Play store?

I don’t know what to tell you the screenshots before are not Android TV version 0.9.10.

This is how a selected item looks like, it’s zoomed + overlay + border

So be sure to be on that version go to setting / interface/ change style and reload the Android TV style.

Wow, thanks
That seems to have fixed the navigation issue as when selecting “Android TV Style” (it was at the bottom of the list and I failed to notice, user error!), the Shield RC immediately worked, I don’t want to speak too soon as it’s done this before, but it works currently. I’ll see if the file/folder selection has also been affected when I get a little time.

In the meantime, thanks.
