Feature description:
I would like to have certain settings and filters applied when I am using Android Auto (AA). The main ones are:
- I would like to enable / disable certain folders in the Local Device media provider when AA is running.
- I want to enable Smart Flow when AA is running.
When AA stops running, I would like the settings to return to my normal ones.
Problem solved:
The Android Auto UI is very limited, so it’s difficult to pick the music I want to hear once I’m driving. I usually start an album before I drive away, but once that ends I’m kind of stuck. My library is very large (20K+ tracks in 2500 albums), so paging through lists is difficult or futile. Often I end up just picking “Track Mix”, but with 20K tracks I end up wanting to skip every other track because it doesn’t fit my mood, or my wife hates it, or it’s terrible car music (e.g. some really quiet ambient piece). And when the random selection pulls up a track I like it’s hard to get AA to play more like that.
Unfortunately I’m one of the people for whom voice control just doesn’t work. I’ve spent an hour trying every combination of settings, but Assistant simply refuses to play Symfonium or even admit that it’s an available music player. I’m stuck with just the AA UI & buttons.
Brought benefits:
If I could have an AA-specific media folder I could populate that with car-friendly (and wife-friendly) music, so that the random and semi-random selection would return only appropriate music.
If I could turn on Smart Flow when AA is running then Symfonium would play “related” music when an album ended, letting me maintain my mood. (In normal usage I very much prefer to listen to entire albums, and to have the music end when the album is over.)
