Playback restarts randomly (happens frequently)

Issue description:

Hello,

Very frequently (few times a day generally), playback from my Plex backend “stops”, and song restarts playing (or skips to the next sometimes).
I have sent debug logs from the app under my “tarkil” username.

Let me know if there’s any other information I can provide, and thank you very much in advance for your help.

Kind regards,
Tarkil

Additional information:

It has happened several times in the past 5 minutes fyi.
I think it might be related to network issues, as I’m streaming over 4g network, but I would expect buffering, not cutting and restarting song. But I’m not sure if that’s the issue or not

Media provider:

Plex

Do you use some kind of proxy or VPN or tunnel or whatever to connect?

Seems at some point all the connection pool is invalid due to closing server side.

Hi Tolriq,

Yes indeed, I use a vpn to connect into my home network.

You might want to check it’s settings about timeouts and things like to maybe increase them.

I’ll add some better recovery for that specific case, but not sure it will be enough if the VPN actually block things.

Hi Tolriq, sorry I was traveling this past couple of days.
Thanks for your message.

I have doubled the value from 1 to 2 minutes. I’ll see if it makes a difference.
In case you have any other guidance for me, don’t hesitate, or if you want me to test a specific version with extra logging, or anything that might help.

In any case, thank you very much, much appreciated!

I’m curious if that helped at all. I’ve got this restarting issue too with my remote Plex server that is also behind a VPN. PlexAmp doesn’t seem to care and plays fine but Symfonium experiences this restart issue.

Open your own issue with logs ?

Yah, I was just curious if the other person had any success with the time out setting before I opened a whole new thread about it. Just trying to do my due diligence first!

Hi,

No it still happens from times to times, I have sent some logs again today, with an issue with similar symptoms (it is hard to consistently reproduce it, but was able to do so today, finally!).

I suppose it is the same issue, but not sure.

What I also notice is that once a “playback error” happens, it seems that it gets cached in the rolling cache, and then playback will always fail, even if I try to “remove from rolling cache”.

It seems this remove from rolling cache doesn’t work, because options is still there after I click it, and because playback always fail at the exact same instant of the song.

Let me know if you need any extra information please.

(this goes through a Wireguard tunnel, I have upgraded vpn to move to Wireguard tunnel instead, for less overhead)

Completely unrelated, you have disabled the prefer internal decoder option and your phone decoder seems to bug sometimes on what is generated by Plex.
Enable back the option.

And use the clear playback cache to remove stalled data due to this.

You were right, I have changed the internal decoder option, and playback now seems to work without hiccups!

Thanks a lot! :folded_hands::folded_hands:
