Often fails to play over bluetooth

Issue description:

Often, I connect my phone to a bluetooth speaker/headphones, and media fails to play. The steps to reproduce are below.

I admit there’s a chance this is an issue with my device rather than Symfonium, but the issue does not occur with other apps, e.g. YouTube Music, hence why I am submitting this issue. It looks like there is also a clear exception shown in the logs when this occurs, so I figured that should make it easier to tell where the issue is.

The issue has also happened when progressing from one song to the next, though the logs do not capture this, since it’s harder to reproduce.

I am streaming from a Navidrome server, for which I have not encountered any issues when streaming using its web interface on any device. The issue began approximately a couple of months ago (apologies that’s a bit vague).

Additional information:

Reproduction steps:

  1. I connect to the bluetooth device
  2. I hit the play button in symfonium
  3. The song progress bar does not advance, and there is no audio played through the speaker
  4. Within a few seconds, my phone no longer has the bluetooth speaker as the audio output, although the device stays connected. Symfonium pauses automatically because it no longer sees the bluetooth output device.
  5. I must now disconnect and reconnect to the bluetooth device to restore audio playback to it, though the same issue usually occurs again.

Enable the option Playback/Advanced/Restart player on device change.

This sometimes workaround OS bugs like this. Else not much I can do

No worries I’ll give it a try, thank you! Figures it’s an OS issue.
