Manage Media Providers (Plex) Authentication Error

Issue description:

Everything works, syncing OK. When I go to Manage Media Providers, even if I don’t change a thing, hit “Update”, it gives a “Authentication Error. Wrong login, password, user, or pin code.” message.

Additional information:

I deleted and re-created the Plex account on Symfonium last time I had to change my password. I just changed my password again, and ran into the same problem where it wouldn’t accept the new password. So I changed the password back to the old value (on Plex.tv), and Symfonium began syncing again - but when I go to the Manage Media Providers settings page, it still won’t let me click “Update” without giving an error message - even though I haven’t changed a thing (and what it entered is working, like I said, everything is syncing OK)

Reproduction steps:

Media provider:

Plex

Have you pressed the big sign in button to regenerate your tokens?

Where is the big sign in button located?

In the same page you edit the ip just below.

I’m seeing these things, on the Edit page for this (Plex) media provider -
A message saying “Symfonium will test the changed parameters…”
Media Provider:
Display Name
Ip or hostname
Subdirectory
Port
Authentication:
Password
Home user
PIN code
Advanced
Wifi Only
Favorites as rating
Full sync
Scrobble as advertisement
Automatic image cache
Automatic media offline cache
Exclude Libraries
“Cancel” and “Update” buttons

No Login button? Is this the correct settings page?

So I guess you did not use the recommended Plex.tv web auth

Remove the host and use that it will simplify your actions.

Hitting this issue after having to reset my password due to the Plex breach, surely updating the password should be… doable without issues.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to update the auth using the Plex.tv web auth - if you remove the hostname, clicking ‘update’ says it’s a required field, and there’s no Sign In button anywhere…

If I have to delete and redownload 1.5tb of media again due to removing/adding a provider again I’ll cry (would that break Smart playlists, and synced Playlists?)

Interesting - on my other Android device I do get the sign in option - but after successfully authenticating I get the same issue clicking update - should I just leave the profile settings page after clicking sign in?

Why do you post rhetorical questions on a very old closed thread ?

In all cases if you add a new provider and let all sync before removing the previous one, no offline cache is lost.

Possibly cause it was the same topic and you closed it without actually answering - clicking sign in doesn’t solve the problem. The thread came from searching for this problem, and chances are others may find this thread the same way.

Adding a new provider, syncing, possibly having to reimport playlists so they sync then removing the old one seems like a work around (which may have been needed back then) that hopefully was fixed.

Not sure why the sign in button doesn’t show on my other device (smaller res issue maybe) but there doesn’t seem to be anyway to re-auth a provider.

Maybe I should have started yet another thread - my apologies, and if its something specific to my devices I probably will - but so far it seems a generic UX issue.

No there’s no UX issue and it’s not generic …

The sign in button is there if you connected via the Web auth that opens a browser else it’s not there.

In all case as you already know from all our previous interactions I need logs to be able to answer anything.

Just uploaded logs (talios-update-passwd-noplexsignin) from the first device that has no Plex Sign in.

Will upload logs from the other device when I head back to the other side of the house.

Open a new issue with screenshots to stop spamming the OP of this one ?

I don’t mind him using this thread, as I also can’t get it to log into Plex after changing my password. The solution last time of changing to token-based authentication (causing me to have to rebuild all my playlists etc) isn’t working for me either - I click “sign-in” to generate a new token, and it just says “authentication error”.

PLEASE someone tell me there is a way to make it log in without having to rebuild all my playlists, caches, etc AGAIN.

I click to log in, it pops up a browser window, I select to allow it to log in, it says I’m logged in and can close this window. I try to hit “update” and it shows the “authentication error” message below the sign-in button.
