The option to ignore articles while listing artists etc is enabled under database settings, but “The” artists are still all sorted together under T rather.

Frustrating how there’s something broken with every media provider… Plex ignores my metadata tags and incorrectly identifies albums, leading to missing tracks. Jellyfin lacks composer tag support and apparently can’t properly sort artists with leading articles, subsonic would be yet another thing to pay for, SMB cannot (should not) be accessed over the internet without a VPN, I don’t want to upload my library to “the cloud,” I don’t have the time to figure out how to set up a webdav share, etc… I would almost rather just install a symfonium specific backend on my server to just have everything work properly.
However, being that sorting can be changed locally in symfonium (date, play count, name, even random) it seems like the option in question to ignore articles should apply regardless of media provider
I just checked on the Jellyfin web interface, and it sorts artists as expected (The Beatles are under B, not T).
I use LMS (formerly Logitech Media Server), apparently you are referring to a different LMS (lightweight music server) so there was some confusion there… I could not see any way to add my LMS as a media provider.
Very different use-case, but I have no doubt that lightweight media server is a better solution for Symfonium.
If I use “sort name” in the sort by drop down it displays as I want, I think that’s what you meant. If I run into more trouble with jellyfin, I’ll give lms a try. Thanks
The Ubuntu install on my server is too old for the debian repo (& using a debian repo on ubuntu isn’t always a good idea anyway), and I cannot seem to wrap my head around how docker works, so lms isn’t going to happen. I ran the docker pull command, but there’s no indication of where the .yml file went so I have no idea how to tell it where my music library is, and when I ran the image manually I got no web ui (server PI & port 5082).
I can’t think of a single situation where docker has made life easier, it’s just another unnecessary layer of complexity. Eventually I’ll look into learning how to use it, but it’s not a Sunday night project.
I’m using Portainer to manage my docker containers (including stacks). However if I were to start fresh today I’d probably use Dockge instead.
Once you’ve deployed a couple of containers it becomes easy and convenient in my opinion.
And as someone who has used Jellyfin as the source for Symfonium for over a year and lately switched to lms, I’ll just say that for example syncs with LMS take ~1/5 of the amount of time that they do with Jellyfin (I have a fairly big collection so this matters to me). Give it a shot and good luck!
