Interface freezing regularly

Issue description:

Hi, on the latest beta 4 the interface seems to randomly lock up. I can’t consistently see what’s causing this, it seems to happen frequently, on the home screen and another page I can’t remember.
When this happens the interface does not respond to any touch, but the music keeps playing.
In the example (hopefully) captured by the logs, I had music playing, and went to the settings to enable debugging. I then backed out to the home screen where, after a second, it froze. I could tell because the debug spinning cog was initally spinning and then froze. Music continued no problem.
Swiping away the app in the recent activities and reloading fixes the problem, no complete force kill required.

Cheers Tolriq

Those are usually not in the logs explicitely can you make a video with matching logs ? That would show what you are doing exactly to search in logs if there’s something.

Best would be a bug report บันทึกและอ่านรายงานข้อบกพร่อง  |  Android Studio  |  Android Developers

Redacted.

Here is the video that matches the logs I just uploaded. I believe logs were named ‘tobyburton96freeze’.

Also included is a bug report. I took it a little afterwards, will it still capture what’s needed?

Depends what little is, they have large buffers but not very large either.

Never upload bug reports publicly always use https://upload.symfonium.app, I’ve removed the link so you can let the file there I’ll look tomorrow.

Shit yeah that’s a good point. Thanks for redacting.

I don’t see anything obvious but if that does not recover then it should ANR at some point.

So can you try to keep clicking on the interface when it freeze until there’s the ANR popup or the app closes ?

Then if it ask press send but in all case restart the app wait a little and in manage symfonium generated files there should be an anr file that you can upload.

I tried clicking for a couple of minutes post freeze and there’s no response at all, no close, no ANR popup.

This makes no sense the UI can’t freeze and not trigger an ANR :frowning:

Have you rebooted the phone ?

The only strange thing in the bug report is some stuff about screen casting.

Can you try in plane mode to see if it does that too?

Yes I’ve rebooted. I assume the screen casting is from me taking a video? Will try. I’ve only noticed the problem while playing music via Bluetooth at the same time - though that is what I’m doing most of the time in the app anyway. Shall I enable Bluetooth in plane mode?

Still happens in airplane mode, with or without Bluetooth enabled, whether music is playing or not.

Makes no sense I can’t see any change in Compose that could trigger this.

So you use some accessibility stuff ?

I use fluid navigation gestures, and nova7 has an accessibility service that is for a double tap to lock when on the launcher. I’ve never had any problem with either of them - can test with them disabled later if you want.

Just to note , I updated from beta 2 not beta 3

Yes if you can try that too.

Else since I can’t repro on my devices, I’ll need to send you a couple of APKs with different compose versions to find what else they broke :frowning:

And just to be sure it never happened in Beta 2 ?

Hi, I received an update today and now I have the exact same issue as the OP. Consistently happening after playing something and then browse through the library randomly. Music keep playing but the UI freeze in a fatal way, only killing the app solve it. Logs are named as marciozomb13

Yes sorry tolriq I missed your last message. It didn’t ever happen on beta 2

If you can easily repro then I’ll need you to try to find the breaking compose version.

Sure. Just let me know how.

Sent you a PM with a test APK.

I believe I also have this issue (symphonium 11.4.0b4)

Interface freezes and doesn’t come back nor properly crash despite waiting, clicking and dragging on every part of the unresponsive interface.
The music continues to play in the background even when I clear the app from recents.
After clearing and reopening the app it is responsive until it freezes again.

I wondered if it might be related to my phone upgrading to Android 15?

Let me know if I can be of any help diagnosing the issue?

This is a Google compose bug with accessibility.

They reverted the broken change and I’ve pushed a new beta build but it requires Google validation.

Hopefully tomorrow morning but can be Monday too :frowning:
