Feature description:
In short I’d love the ability to utilize additional “ORIG-” tags within symfonium
Example:
ORIGALBUM | “TOAL”
ORIGARTIST | “TOPE”
Problem solved:
I often run into tracks that have affiliations to two projects. (Examples Below) In these cases you are left with a decision of keeping duplicate tracks with differing tags to retain full releases or forgoing said tracks & siting with uncomplete releases which can effect your listening experience later.
Utilizing the ORIGALBUM tag could allow users to crate a short playlist / album or grouping of tracks that exists between the lines, currently lost to metadata.
Brought benefits:
I very often have remixes, covers or other alternate versions of tracks as well as the usual Compilation albums (The Best of… , The Essential…)
This is where I utilize ORIGALBUM so that I know where this track originated / existed before becoming apart of this new project.
Unfortunately this tag is not currently one we can use to manipulate selections in symfonium.
Using this tag as a smart filter, playlists filter or even a way to identify albums (That one is wild but i have to throw it out there) would allow users to sort of unearth these hidden selections of tracks hiding in their tags.
Other application solutions:
I think this wacky idea would be pioneered here.
Additional description and context:
EXAMPLE 1:
A user could open the app to track view & select filter targets like so
Album: Contains “Back Stabbers (Expanded Edition)”
ORIGALBUM: Contains “Back Stabbers (1972)”
ORIGARTIST: Contains “The O’Jays”
Now this list of tracks could include the full original release as well as the remix by DJ Reverend P which belongs to its own separate album “The Remixes of P”.
EXAMPLE 2:
In cases where you have mashups. (for me these have two ORIGALBUM Tags as the track is comprised of two separate tracks married by some unhinged DJ in a basement.)
Using these tags you could pull up the original album as well as the mashup & have them all queued.
I know what you’re thinking, “wouldn’t a simple search of the artist name pull these tracks up anyways?”
NO, not always, see screenshots 2 & 3
Screenshots / Mockup:
Image 1:
Some artists release tracks that don’t explicitly claim to be a remix… but they are
Image 2:
Mashups whose titles are also Mashups
(they took the original titles of both tracks & made a new name from the two like they do when two High schoolers are dating)
Image 3:
A Track that is a Cover but the Original Artist is not listed
Image 4:
Track 3 in the red box (Stay Gold) originated from The Album on the right (Green Circle) as Track 4 of this mixtape.
Same exact track but on two projects, I’d rather not have two duplicate tracks in my library. The Tag ORIGALBUM on “stay Gold” matches the disc title circled in green.
Using that tag I could queue the full mixtape by searching for tracks where ORIGALBUM is / contains “Slum Tiller: Volume One” thus negating the need to have two duplicate tracks in the library just so i can listen to the whole release when I play this album.
Image 5:
Here I’ve used mp3tag to perform a search for all tracks where ORIGALBUM contains “Slum”, as you can see I successfully locate the tracks “Missing” from the album on the right in image 4.
