Global Toggle For "Generate From Tracks" Feature For Artist Image

Feature description:

Currently there is an artist-level feature to generate an image from the artist’s tracks for artists without an image already present. This enhancement would create a global-level toggle to perform this feature across all artists where image data isn’t already present

Problem solved:

For very large libraries it can be very time consuming to perform the artist-level ‘generate from tracks’ feature for each artist.

Brought benefits:

Saves a ton of time and easily fills in gaps where artist image data isn’t already present across the library

Other application solutions:

In my head, this feature is effectively a toggle option somewhere in the settings menu. If the feature is toggled on then it would automatically perform the “generate from tracks” feature across all artists currently without images across the library. The default setting would be toggle-off. I’m open to suggestions on other ideas. The main benefit is to avoid the tedious process of applying the ‘generate from tracks’ artist images individually and letting this process happen automatically.

Additional description and context:

The main idea is to fill in gaps where artist images are not already populated. My feature would not automatically override images already present.

There’s already an option on the provider settings to achieve that.

Interesting. I could swear I’ve gone through all the available settings’ menus in Symfonium but I didn’t notice it. What option is it to toggle that?

On the provider settings (If not using a server then it’s up to the provider to provide the images) enable generate missing thumbnails from tracks.

Thanks for that guidance. There’s ‘manage providers’ in Symfonium but I don’t see a toggle for that option (if that’s what you were referring to)

If you actually meant ‘on the providers/server side’ - I’m using a Jellyfin server setup. I’ve started some googling to see what option that is and, if it exists, if it’s down to a specific plugin or default config setting. Just wanted to be sure I understand before digging too deeply into something you were not referring to.

I couldn’t find much on this detail after the feature was implemented so hopefully this dialogue is also helpful to future searchers.

Just wrote above that when using a server then there’s no such option as you should do that server side to not do that on each client and each reinstall.

Thanks for the insight. I can continue to look into solutions on the server side for filling in gaps in the artists’ image files. I just assumed that since the option was available at the individual artist level that it could/would be scalable to the global setting.

Next release will add a only missing flag to the API so you could use the API for that.

Thanks for the update. I’ll continue to look for server-side alternatives, preferably ones that can auto-update a few basic fields/values/files like the artist image.
