Further filter playlists

I have created smart playlists based on music styles as well as user rating. This caters for most of my needs without completely blowing up the number of playlists required.

Sometimes I want to play “this style of music, but only from this artist”. I can’t really create smart playlists for every combination in existance. It would be nice to be able to search within the currently play queue and create a new queue from the results.

Currently there is a search feature in the queue, but it can only search titles. However the artist/album info should be available for the search, as those are already displayed on each song in the queue? So the first feature would be to be able to search for those as well.

Next, currently the search only filters what’s displayed of the queue, it doesn’t change anything in the queue. It just allows you to jump to a specific song in the queue. How about a way to actually change the queue to the current search results?

There might be a better way to do it, that was just what I thought of. The goal is just to temporarily filter an already existing playlist according to some criteria, without having to create new smart playlists every time.

Honestly it feels like you kind of have to make a new smart playlist & just don’t save it.

If you go to track view you can make a filter using the filter chips & use the following criteria

In Playlist / Smart Playlist (Choose Playlist)

Then from there you further filter said list using any criteria available in the “filter targets” this would achieve what you want without needing to create a new playlist.

The pro here is you can use the tags better than a simple search with the filter bar, the con is its not quite as fast as the search with the filter bar.

I do like the idea of being able to search & then using the search results to create a new queue however this is a feature already if I’m not mistaken.

If you preform a search using the filter bar & then tap on a results the queue should now be all the results from your search

The filter button in the playlist view does search in the artists and fit your needs.

The now playing queue is the now playing queue, you can search or edit but if you want to play something completely different just restart the playback.

Oh, I actually didn’t realize you could filter a playlist before starting the playback. I’ve for some reason always started my playlists by clicking the three dots and “shuffle”, as I just assumed that tapping the big icon would just start playing them in order, and didn’t even realize I’d actually never done that. Feeling stupid…
