This isn’t a big need by any means, but would be convenient to me.
I would like if, when I was viewing a list of artist songs (linked from the artist page), I could filter that list by the album type of the song’s respective album.
My use case is as follows:
- I tag remix releases with an album/release type.
- Sometimes I wish to play an artist’s catalogue of remixes that they have produced.
Due to the way these remixes are released, they are usually on another artist’s remix compilation album, along with other songs by other remixers.
For example, Caribou has an album called Suddenly Remixes, where each song on the album will be by a different Artist. For example, Floating Points. Floating Points also has a remix on Bonobo’s remix album, and many more.
Therefore, if I wanted to listen to all of Floatings Points’ remixes, I would click the Appears on section header and hit the play button. The problem is (besides including other releases in that section), this will include other songs, by other artists, on the same remix compilations (ie. it will add the whole of the release to the queue, not just the songs by the artist I am browsing within, so I will end up with other artist’s songs in my queue).
I realise that I could achieve this by Smart Playlists, but it is not as convenient, as integrated or as dynamic.
I understand that technically the album types belong to the album and not the song, so you may not wish to integrate it, but I would appreciate it.

Other application solutions:
Musicbee only displays the songs within the album that are by the artist you are browsing from when filtering by artist. I do not think your implementation of the album view is wrong, as it is necessary to view the album with all songs on it as well. My suggestion would allow easy access to the best of both worlds.
