Extend Heart Button in Android Auto to work with rating system

Feature description:

This is a Plexamp functionality, so I am not sure how possible it will be with Symfonium.

I use the 5-star rating system and would like to be able to tag tracks while driving. Plexamp works in an identical way

In Android auto, I would like the Heart Button to have three states:
Filled = 5 stars,
Not Filled = 0 stars
broken heart = 1 star

Problem solved:

I use the 5-star rating system and would like to be able to tag tracks while driving. Plexamp works in an identical manner
it solves the problem of being able to rate tracks in AA

Brought benefits:

The benefits are two-fold

  1. Customisation: For those who use the heart, nothing changes, the can simply like and unlike songs

  2. it ensures ratings can be used in AA

Other application solutions:

You can already configure the plex provider to map favorite status to 5 stars ratings.

Sorry, but I don’t understand your response.

I am referring to the favourite button within Symfonium in Android Auto. I am unaware of a setting within Plex that manages favourite status to star ratings.

Please point me to it if possible.

:point_right: Plex - media provider configuration

Thank you for getting back to me. I wasn’t aware of this particular setting, but my request remains.

This suggestion is an enhancement to the current functionality. Currently, the app only has a single state where “favorite” is equivalent to a 5-star rating. Adding a second option would allow for a 2nd rating. This can be 1 star or configurable if possible.

Then the off state. I hope that makes sense. I have shared some images of the 3 states from AA

Yes but Symfonium actually have a working system for favorites so that would break it

What can be done is add another special 3 state rating button exposed to AA that could be selected to replace the favorite.

Yes. that would be perfect

I did wonder what it might break, but I have just discovered, so I am still exploring.

Thank you for considering it and taking the time and patience to respond. if you decide to go ahead, let me know and I will make a small contribution. Ta

You have also implemented this.

Bloody hell!

You are a legend!

Actually not that one yet it’s was implemented for the 5 stars to fav state.

Ok. I will patiently wait

Thank you for this. It’s Appreciated

Hi,

So this is clearly my own fault.

I’ve been fighting with different server solutions and android auto solutions for a while now. Finally had a day off, so set up my server, and as it had an option to do 0-5 star ratings on Android, bit the bullet and emptied my light wallet for Symfonium (apparently I had already used the trial at some point in the past).

Welp, (again my, fault) apparently I misremembered and I was thinking of another app, as I can’t find a setting to allow 0-5 star ratings for the now currently playing song on Android Auto. I just found this year old post on the forum, but it looks like there has been no movement on this. Is there any plans to actually implement this?

I’m sure no one cares, but my reason for doing this is that I have a massive music library and I want to sort it using the 5 star rating system (mostly so I can mark lots of stuff as 1 star, which would mean it’s marked for deletion).

Thanks in advance, the app is fantastic otherwise.

As you can see with the tags, it’s marked as implemented.

Change one of the media session button to rating.

So, on Android Auto (AA), there are three rating implementations:

  • Straight face: No stars
  • Sad face: 1 star
  • Smiley face: 5 stars

This mimics the Plexamp implementation and works well. There are obvious limitations on Android Auto due to safety reasons, and I think this is satisfactory.

The only issue is that tracks rated 2 to 4 stars (on your android phone) currently show a straight face. I’ve been meaning to submit a new request to update the system to match Plexamp’s approach:

  • 1 and 2 stars: Sad face
  • 3 to 5 stars: Happy face

Oooof. I was just about to go out to the car to check, so thanks for letting me know in advance. So close, yet so far!

Is there a reason pushing the rating button can’t just bring up 5 stars so you can click them?

@Tolriq Thanks for the quick response.

Yes as explained in dozens of posts  Apps have 0 control over the UI of Android Auto.

Oh, you only have the option of 3 button “modes”? (I’m not familiar with AA dev in the slightest).

Safety and limited options provided by AA

Seriously, you are not going to find anything better than Symfonium. I specifically requested this functionality, and Tolriq implemented it in the next release.

My workaround is to use the smiley face for all ratings from 2 to 5 (I only use 1, 2, and 4), and then, when I have some time, I simply update the 5s to whatever they should be on my phone. It takes minutes and has never been an inconvenience.

The flexibility the app provides for AA is second to none.

I was more asking out of curiosity on how the AA dev enviroment works.

At the minute it’s looking like I’ll have to go with.
1- Delete me.
2- OK song
3. Good song.

It only lets me rate songs as good or bad then tough, which is though one

There’s no access to anything it’s just an hack over an icon button.

Please open the FR if you want the face change on other intermediate values.
