Create playlist groups

Feature description:

I think we all use smart playlists to create custom fun playlists. Sometimes, the playlists would benefit from being grouped together instead of having 10, 20, 30 playlists to scroll through until you get to the one you looked for. Yes I know we have favourite playlists to isolate to a some extent. But I am talking more about grouping similar playlists together, for example, I have smart album playlists for certain records labels, a group called “Record Labels”, would be nice, and, would contain all related playlists, or, Electronic, could contain all electronic “genre” smart track playlists.

Problem solved:

It allows users to group related playlists together, instead of having a one very large playlist page.

Brought benefits:

First of, it creates a huge organizational benefit, and, would offer users to create a more dynamic and customizable playlist page.

You mean something like tags that you could attache to playlists and then easily filter them by that ? :wink:

I meant more a sort of folder layout for playlists. Sure you could organise by tags but also just the option “create playlist group” and “add to playlist group”.

So it would look like this for example:

[Group name] [Playlist Name]
Record Label → Motown Records, UNFD, EMI etc etc

From GUI perspective, it would look similar to how folder view works. With the option to also add covers to the Group Name. Hope it makes sense.

Tags are superior to folders as can belong to multiple ones without limiting hierarchy.

This was discussed before.

Thats fine. If we can create a nice thumbnail for the parent playlist directory then its A+ from me.

Tags are already here, there’s no image to them and no plans for that.

Then my visual, organisation of playlists is currently not possible. :disappointed_face:

And why ? Create apply the record label tag on the playlists you want. Then click on record label tag and you have all the wanted playlist.

You can switch instantly between tags without the need to go back the fins the folder then click then back then …

Ok, agree, this works better than I anticipated. I was thinking in a more visual way. But this is good enough :+1:

I would have one small request to improve this feature. It would be nice to have a selective box when applying the filter to playlists, instead of having to write it new each time. Similar to how the selection for available tags works in smart playlists already :slight_smile:

How about we create some custom headers on the homepage and pin related playlists? Pinning them one by one is currently possible but grouping them would be way better. For example, a custom header of “Replay” and all replay related playlists pinned under it, similar to the “Recently Added Albums” header and those albums pinned under it. Plus, this would enhance the home screen update that was introduced last February.
