Chromecast connection problems

Issue description:

I experience problems with connecting Symfonium to both of my chromecasts (2nd gen). I installed/purchased Symfonium a few weeks ago and the problems where there from the beginning.

I often cannot get Symfonium to connect to my chromecast(s) no matter how many times I try. The chromecast icon turns and stays red. I then try to disable/enable wifi, reboot my phone, reboot chromecast, open google home (in which I then see basically nothing), etc.

Other times it connects immediately. And I’m like thank god for that.. I have no idea why, because there’s nothing I do differently. I don’t have the problem with spotify, youtube, etc.

Sometimes it’s connected before I leave the house, then later when I return I cannot get it to connect. I also tried enabling the proxy via symfonium, but I still have problems.

I cast mp3 files from my Android phone (sd card). Rebooting my chromecasts didn’t help. The only error message I sometimes get is ‘current renderer is offline’ and ‘migrating to renderer’ or something like that. I also often see a second instance of the casting device appear in the list of devices when it fails to connect (as if I have three chromecasts, but two with the same name). I don’t use a vpn. Phone and chromecasts are on the same wifi.

Any advice?

I need logs reproducing the issue not empty ones.

Please check my log again?

And at what moment did the issue happen ? In those logs each time a discovery was started devices where listed.

I turned debug mode on right before I tried to connect my chromecast. It failed to connect several times. At some poined I was able to connect. Then I turned debug mode off again.

Please make a video about your issue and provide logs corresponding to the video.

In the logs as said every single discovery started found your devices.

I just uploaded a video through Symfonium secure file sharing and sent the logs. The connection to my chromecast failed several times as you can see. Only at the end of the video was I finally able to connect Symfonium to chromecasts. This is how it usually goes (and if I leave the house and come back; all over again). Either something like this, or it connects immediately :woman_shrugging::folded_hands:

In the logs the Wifi is unstable and disconnect reconnect later.

I don’t have any issues with Spotify/YouTube/Netflix/HBO etc. though. They all connect with chromecast right away. I’ve asked my host about the wifi not being stable, but didn’t get a proper response. I know I have an Archerc1200 tp- link wifi extender and it’s 3 feet away from my chromecast (and 500 mbps fiber) and my phone is in the same room. Any suggestions on what to do? :folded_hands::blush:

In the video there’s no problem to connect to the chromecast except at the moment where the Wifi is disconnected and then the Chromecasts are not visible in the list as expected.

The problems are tied to the actual starting of the playback that requires network bandwidth between the Chromecast and your phone, as opposed to all the other services your name that requires bandwidth between Chromecast and Internet.

My guess would be that the phone sometimes connect to the extender and sometimes directly on the primary wifi device and that explains the difference.

Network support is outside of my scope, but you can probably rename the wifi network of the extender to something else to better see what you are connected to when it happens and see what you can tweak there.

I checked several times but I am connected to the extender, also when I try to connect Symfonium to chromecast.

I downloaded VLC and tested the past 24 hours and each time I tried it connected to chromecast without any problems. The first time. I can disconnect and connect again, without problems. Switching to Symfonium (connecting Symfonium to chromecast while VLC was connected to chromecast) failed every time I tried.

I also noticed that when I try to connect Symfonium to chromecast my chromecast reboots. I forgot to mention that.

I love the Symfonium app, but I need chromecast to function.

The Chromecast code is all Google so if it reboots Google have messed up hugely, and since Symfonium obviously does not send a reboot command there’s not much I can do here.

For the record many many users are casting to Chromecast and it works for them and for me every single time.

I face this too. You want a new ticket with logs or add here?
