Feature description
Add an Autonomous DJ mode to Symfonium that can take a playlist selected by the user and automatically mix its tracks together like a real DJ.
Instead of simply playing the playlist normally and applying a standard crossfade, Symfonium could analyze the tracks and decide when and how to transition between them.
The system could analyze things such as BPM, beats, song structure, intros, outros, energy and, when possible, musical key. It could then choose suitable transition points and synchronize the tracks to create a continuous DJ-style mix.
The user would simply select a playlist, enable Autonomous DJ mode, and let Symfonium handle the transitions automatically.
A second part of the feature could allow users to create their own custom mixes, manually choosing transition points and parameters when they want more control.
Problem solved
Normal playlist playback and crossfade do not always produce natural transitions between songs. A fixed crossfade can start or end at a musically inappropriate moment, making the transition feel forced or abrupt.
Symfonium already has powerful queue, flow and fade functionality, but an actual DJ mode would approach the problem differently: instead of only deciding which track plays next or applying a fade, it would decide where in each track the transition should happen and how the two tracks should be mixed.
Brought benefits
This would make playlists feel much more like a professionally mixed DJ set.
It would allow users to listen to their existing playlists continuously without manually controlling every transition, while still giving them control over exactly which songs are allowed to play.
It could also make Symfonium particularly interesting for genres where transitions are important, such as EDM, house, techno, drum & bass, pop or hip-hop.
Other application solutions
Dedicated DJ applications can analyze tracks and provide beat synchronization, BPM matching and automatic or semi-automatic transitions.
Plexamp and Symfonium already have features related to mixes and intelligent queue generation, but this proposal is specifically about DJ-style mixing of the tracks already contained in a user-selected playlist, rather than generating a new mix by searching the entire music library.

Additional description and context
The main idea is:
Select playlist → Enable Autonomous DJ → Symfonium analyzes the playlist → automatically chooses transition points → mixes tracks together → continues through the playlist.
For example, instead of:
Track A → fixed crossfade → Track B
it could produce something closer to:
Track A → detect suitable outro/transition point → prepare Track B → beat synchronization → transition → Track B
The system should preferably avoid simply fading one song out while fading the next one in. It should try to find musically appropriate sections and transitions.
The playlist should be the source of the available tracks. The Autonomous DJ should not start adding random songs from the rest of the server unless the user explicitly enables an option to do so.
It could also have several modes, for example:
- Smooth – longer and more subtle transitions.
- DJ – beat-matched transitions at appropriate musical points.
- Energetic – prioritize keeping the energy of the mix high.
- Custom – user-defined transition preferences.
An advanced version could also allow users to manually edit and save their own mixes, so a playlist could have a custom transition between each pair of tracks.
This would complement Smart Queue, Smart Flow and Smart Fades rather than simply replacing them: those features can handle queue generation and fading, while Autonomous DJ would focus specifically on musical mixing and transition placement.
