Android 14, Pixel 7a. I have a number of grouped Sonos speakers. For example, two Sonos Ones in a stereo configuration with a group labelled, Kitchen. The problem: the app cast screen shows all my devices broken out seperately. So I see my two Sonos Ones (R & L), but nothing about their group (Kitchen). I tried to choose one speaker, thinking perhaps Sonos would take over and play the group, but instead I get a string of error notifications from the Symfonium app and it shuts down all playing. I have exported those error logs via the app. I am able to successfully cast to my Beam and Arc soundbars respectively, and that casting happens immediately.

Reproduction steps:
Choose a song (tried with multiple quality and file format types)
Play first on device
Choose cast
Note speakers are listed individually and not in groups
Pick a single speaker that’s part of a group
I only have 1 SONOS left so no group to test but @Sanizzle can play on groups without problems so he maybe can give some light on what he did differently for the group to be proper on UPnP.
I created the group with the S2 Sonos app indeed.
And I can tell you that it is very hit or miss…
As you know I had this problem with the ARC + 2 ERA + SUB, and I had to ungroup and regroup to make it work.
But during this process I also tested the 2 ERA as a stereo pair, and It had the same behaviour of showing not just one pair (group) in the Symfonium App, but 2 separate devices, although the group was visible in the Sonos app, Spotify, Tidal, Plexamp…
I chose one of the device ERA I could see on the Symfonium list, and the sound cale from only one, not the pair. Same for the other one.
I tried later and nothing came out.
I decided to ungroup and regroup again, and it worked fine.
I finally regroup the whole ARC + ERA + SUB and it worked, but I really can’t explain why, since I didn’t do it differently than before…
Sorry if it doesnt bring you a true method to follow but I can only advise you to ungroup and regroup several times until it work.
Thanks for the info and it sounds like I’m having the exact same experience. I’ll give that a try but it definitely feels finicky and not a total solve. @Tolriq are you the dev/founder? Is this something you’re looking at addressing?
The new sonos app is bugged as hell, just check all the forums and complains.
Their other API is very limited, bugged and cloud based and the reason why apps using it have often issues (except the big cloud company like Spotify with special integrations)
The Symfonium UPnP integration work pretty well now.
If they do not expose the proper data to UPnP I can’t invent it.
No problem, hope you’ll be lucky. @Tolriq is right about all the Sonos bugs, those last months have been a Nightmare, I wasn’t able to access my library from the Sonos app for weeks… The workaround was through Plex but wasn’t perfect and I finally had troubles with playing FLACs… Hopefully they stabilize this.
Update: tried ungrouping/grouping. Tried removing speakers and re-adding. Tried turning everything off and on again No luck for anything. It’s a real shame because I really like your app, but my primary use is casting to Sonos. It’s unbelievable how they badly they fouled up their ecosystem.
I’m new to Symfonium but have used Sonos with BubbleUPnP for a long time where it’s never displayed any Sonos groups, instead I have to make sure that I play to the master speaker (the speaker you click on in the Sonos app to initiate group creation) in order for it to work correctly.
I’ve just tested this in Symfonium with a pair of Play 1’s and if I play to the slave the sound comes from only the one speaker, whereas if I play to the master it comes from both.
That seems to be the way. I cast to my arc and then just use the Sonos app to pick the speakers I want. That saves me picking the wrong main speaker in my other paired groups and getting app errors.
Recently tried this & for me it didnt matter which speaker I used I could open Sonos & group them with the currently playing speaker. Im on whetwver newest version of the sonos app. I did notice Symfonium had a seizure after creating a group of my Sonos Speakers which was odd. I couldn’t get it to do it again in a log so i may have to wait on that one
This is just after creating the group in Sonos & heading back to Symfonium. Music playback was fine during this which i found interesting.
I can do that to, to an extent. If I choose a stereo pair, I have to choose the primary speaker (which is a guess). Even then, it only plays the one speaker until I go into the Sonos app, deselect that pair, choose another speaker, play it, then go back in and re-select the original pair, it then plays from both. Then, if I decide to stop listening on that original pair and keep listening on the new pair selected in the sonos app, the original selection will go back to playing whatever I sent to it first. Bit of a cluster, but I acknowledge this is more on Sonos than it is on Symfonium. I can get around it somewhat by choosing my soundbar first, then adding in the other speakers, it does at lease get away from the single speaker issue.
