Feature description
I would like an option to choose which metadata is displayed as the secondary text on the Android Auto Now Playing screen.
Currently, Android Auto displays the track title and artist. For my music library, the album name is often more useful than the artist name, especially when listening to different recordings, live albums, remasters, compilations or Carnival recordings where several tracks may use the same artist information.
My preferred display would be:
Track title
Album
Artist
However, I understand that the Android Auto interface and the number of visible text lines may be controlled by Android Auto rather than by Symfonium.
If displaying all three fields is not possible, I would like at least one of these alternatives:
An option to display track title + album instead of track title + artist.
An option to choose whether the secondary field contains artist or album.
If technically possible, a configurable secondary metadata string such as Artist • Album.
I understand that Symfonium does not control the Android Auto user interface itself.
This request is specifically about whether Symfonium can choose or configure the metadata values exposed to Android Auto through the media session, without changing the Android Auto layout.
The minimum useful implementation for me would be a setting such as:
Android Auto secondary metadata:
Artist
Album
Artist • Album
The default behaviour could remain unchanged to avoid affecting existing users or external integrations.
Problem solved
When using Android Auto, I can see the track title and artist, but I cannot identify the album without looking at the phone.
This is particularly inconvenient when the same track exists on several albums, editions, live recordings or compilations. In those cases, the album is often more relevant than the artist because the artist is already known or repeated across the entire playback session.
Brought benefits
Makes it possible to identify the exact album or recording while driving.
Provides more useful context without requiring additional interaction.
Allows users to adapt the metadata display to the way their music library is organised.
Would be especially useful for live albums, remasters, compilations, classical music, audiobooks and large self-hosted music libraries.
