Album title in mixed folders - Tagging versus Organizing

Issue description:

Hello,
I am quite new to Symfonium and overwhelmed by all the options.

I have quite a big collection of albums and compilations - all organized in corresponding folders.

For these tracks the album title is shown correctly by Symfonium.

But now I came to a point, when I arranged some tracks from different albums in one folder for temporary usage.

As it seems Symfonium can not handle the album title for tracks in this mixed folder correctly!
Like it seems, the album title for all tracks is taken from the first file/track in the directory listing!
Why?
Although each file/track has its very own album tag this is ignored…
I already reset the caches and rescanned the library in jellyfin.
This did not make a change in this strange behaviour…
This might be a question of philosophy…
But I think organizing tracks in folders with each folder containing an album is one thing… Using the tags for grouping/finding etc is another…
To me - considering the mixed folder - it makea no sense to retag the files/tracks only because they have “changed” the directory… they still belong to their initial album (with its title) and not to an album/folder named “temp”.
Moreover I wonder if it is not even more complicated programming-wise to fetch the album title from a track that actually is not opened for playback…
Is this really to work this way?
Or do I have a misconfiguration in my Symfonium app?

Any hints are appreciated very much!

Kind regards

Chris

Additional information:

Reproduction steps:

generate a directory with tracks from different albums!
Play tracks from album!
Observe album title!
(Always the same (wrong) album title from first track in directory)

Media provider:

Jellyfin

Screenshots:

Unfortunately you are using Jellyfin so it’s Jellyfin issue.
Symfonium just display the data it sends and have no access to folder hierarchy or tags.

Hello Tolriq,

Thank you for your instant reply!

This was an option I did not take in consideration…

To check this behaviour I installed Finamp… and surprisingly this tool handles the album titles in a correct way:

Each track from the mixed folder/directory is displayed with its very own / distinct album title during playback:

(Screenshot taken during playback from same mixed folder with finamp)

So jellyfin seems to provide the distinct album title for each track for apps streaming audio files…

Maybe there is a “mismatch” in communication between Symfonium and jellyfin?

Kind regards

Chris

No there’s not, this is a duplicate, they create new albums with different names but return a different album title for the songs.
This breaks the API and is something that needs to be fixed on Jellyfin side.

Symfonium store the albums related to the songs as reported by Jellyfin and show the album title of that album as expected. The fact that Jellyfin returns 2 different data is a Jellyfin issue and not something I can workaround easily on Symfonium side.

Hi Tolriq,

thank you for this clarification!

So I will open a ticket at jellyfin support…

(if no one else came a cross this “misbehaviour” and reported it )

Kind regards

Chris
