Album artists show up as "Hybrid" with metadata from MusicBrainz

Issue description

I use the app to play locally stored mp3s. I added a new album whose metadata I got from MusicBrainz via Mp3tag on my computer, but the album artist is showing up as “Hybrid” instead of the real album artist. I tried editing tags and reloading them, but there’s no change.

After banging my head against the wall a couple times, I realized that the album artist “Hybrid” is bringing me to some other files that have incomplete or wonky data from MusicBrainz. (That and one lone, legit song from the electronic group Hybrid.) They look like deep tags that I don’t usually touch. It’s got me wondering if these weird tags are related to the album artist problem. Or, if there’s a different tagging problem that Symfonium is trying to rectify by categorizing them as a hybrid tag. Any ideas where I can go from here? Hoping I don’t have to completely wipe out the tags and start from scratch, but if that’s what I have to do…

Steps to reproduce

Load up some mp3s with MusicBrainz tags (the US release of The Essential Luther Vandross works great) and see how the album artist is incorrect.

Additional information

The tags originally had multiple contributing artists. I deleted them from the contributing artists field but nowhere else. I also deleted artistsort and albumartistsort tags.

Your logs are empty …

As all the duplicates, you have wrong tags that you need to fix, artists are merged and use musicbrainz ids, you need to have proper consistent data everywhere in your collection.

Sent the logs again.

Fixing the metadata solved the problem! I used the “extended tags” option in Mp3tag to view and remove all the problem fields. After reloading and syncing, everything is displaying correctly.

Symfonium’s attention to metadata can be a double-edged sword. Hoping there’s an integrated tag editor coming in future updates so we can solve these problems where we find them.

There’s a LOT more chance of free lagerlagerlagerlager than a tag editor coming in future versions of Symfonium
