Album Artist Tag Filtering

Feature description:

Sorry is this is unfeasible or already asked before (I couldn’t find a specific mention).

But I would really love for my Album Artist section to rely on the Album Artist tags, rather than what I assume is the MusicBrainz ID tags.

Problem solved:

I specifically edit the Album Artist tag to display the way I want (such as changing Various Artists to a semicolon separated list of Artists on the album).

But when I use Symfonium’s Album Artist display, I get a mess of mixed up artists to albums from my intended categorization.

Brought benefits:

I understand that this would make acquiring artist metadata harder, but I honestly would forgo that feature just for the opportunity to browse my album artists as I am used to. This would make my experience way way better if possible. Thanks!

Other application solutions:

I use MusicBee on PC which reads Album Artist tags and can take semicolon-separated artists and attribute the album to each artist in the list.

So if a compilation album has Artist 1; Artist 2; Artist3; as the Album Artist tag, it will list that album under each artist’s page, or list of songs/albums/etc.

Additional description and context:

I can provide examples from MusicBee if that would be helpful.

A similar effect to what I want is what I get from the Display Name sort under All Albums, but I want to only see artists.

I’m sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about, the app use the album artist tags and the separator you use if you use Symfonium tag parser.
If you use a server it’s up to the server .

Hm…yeah after looking closer I actually think something is just very wrong with how my files were imported or something.

I just noticed some albums with the completely wrong album artist from what they should be.

I am just connecting to a NAS directly via SMB for file access and I’m certain the tags are correct.

I thought it was relying on the Music Brainz ID tag because I changed them before and it changed the artist listed but I guess it was just a coincidence?

Well you don’t give example files, actual tags or anything precise enough so I can answer

Upload some of the files giving a result you think is wrong at https://upload.symfonium.app and tell exactly what you’d expect from the tags.

I tried uploading logs via the app. I’m not sure if they went through or not since I don’t see them under the link you sent.

Are you able to see them somewhere?

I just uploaded a screenshot from Symfonium and the flac file itself. You can see the artist listed is completely incorrect from what the flac file contains.

Ok so you do use and have mbids but then change the tags without removing or changing the mbid?

This will cause issue, the mbids are used as a way to detect duplicate artists, an mbid being unique.

So yes sorry but this is not possible to disable the usage of mbids if they are present.
Since they are invalid in your case, it’s best to remove them.

Okay, understood. Things seem to be working fine now. Thanks
