Feature description:
Add “Genre” as a filter option in the label album view, so users can filter a label’s releases by genre without leaving that screen.
Problem solved:
When browsing a label with dozens or hundreds of releases across multiple genres, there’s currently no way to filter by genre within that view. Smart Filters aren’t practical because they require creating a separate saved filter for every label+genre combination (e.g., “Label A + House”, “Label A + Techno”, “Label B + House”, etc.). With hundreds of labels, this becomes unmanageable.
Brought benefits:
Enables efficient tag-based navigation for label-focused music collections (common in electronic music). Users can quickly browse: select label → filter by genre → explore releases, matching the workflow of desktop music managers like MusicBee. Makes Symfonium more practical for large, label-organized libraries without requiring extensive manual filter configuration.
Other application solutions:
MusicBee (desktop music manager) has a “Tag Hierarchy Explorer” that allows sequential hierarchical filtering based on ID3 tags. Users can configure custom hierarchies (e.g., Label → Genre → Subgenre) and navigate by clicking through levels. Each level filters the previous selection, so selecting a label shows only that label’s releases, then selecting a genre within that view shows only albums matching both criteria. This works entirely from tags without requiring specific folder organization
Additional description and context:
My library contains hundreds of electronic music labels (stored in the LABEL/PUBLISHER tag) with 4-5 genres per label on average. The sequential workflow (browse labels → pick one → filter by genre) is essential for discovering music within a specific label’s catalog. Currently I maintain this organization in MusicBee desktop but need the same tag-based navigation when streaming remotely via Symfonium.
