Ability To Set Symfonium As A Home Launcher

Feature description:

I believe the ability to set Symfonium as a home launcher natively would be a real benefit to the app and users who use the app on dedicated DAP (Digital Audio Players) and re-purposed android devices.

The ability to add a simple “App List” to the main navigation to reach other apps, search app list and hide apps if needed is the only element I can think of off the cuff (though I’m sure there is a lot more work involved) and allows Symfonium to be the primary focus.

Problem solved:

Currently, to achieve using the app as a home launcher you must use a 3rd party app such as Target Home Launcher (depreciated), AnyHome or dubious options like “Any Launcher” from Github.

Whilst these serve their purpose, they also do not exclude Symfonium from the recent apps screen and this can cause inconsistent or glitchy behaviours, example: gestures will sometimes stop working as a result of this ‘hacky’ solution.

A direct, native option to enjoy Symfonium and keep you in the app and focus on enjoying your music would be a dream come true and avoid glitches from 3rd parties that hurt the overall experience.

Brought benefits:

  • I believe the feature is in-line with Symfonium’s ethos of a “Music first” approach.
  • Provides a polished experience negating 3rd party solutions and their associated bugs.
  • Keeps audiophiles grounded primarily in the Symfonium app, focused on enjoying their music.
  • I like Symfonium, I like looking at Symfonium, I really like navigating Symfonium. Please don’t make me look at clunky launchers anymore.

Other application solutions:

Apps that allow you to set Symfonium (or any app as a launcher) does not hide the selected app from recent apps like a traditional launcher:

  • Target Home Launcher: (Depreciated, requires low bypass install via ADB)
  • Any Home: Works, but is buggy, navigation freezing.
  • Any Launcher: Installed from Github, requires some weird permissions that leave me feeling uneasy (I do not recommend using this app).

Current workaround to access an app drawer:

  • Edge gestures, with app shortcuts (pie control)
  • Ubiki touch, used to trigger Panels app drawer
  • Panels, edge side drawer , used for easy alphabetical list of apps for the occasions when I navigate away from Symfonium
