First selected the Root Folder to upload all folders, but it crashed so tried juts one folder. Did get it to work with two albums and 20 tracks. Message is "Unsuccessful. check logs if frequent:

Google times out. Do you have a single folder with really a lot of files in it ?

No, not in general. Each album has its own folder, so mostly 10 or 12 tracks per folder. They might be larger files, such as only 4 tracks for Beethoven’s 9th. All album folders are then in a folder by Artist, so on artist folder may have several, or many, subfolders each with 10 or more tracks. Some albums may be several levels deep. For, example Mozart > Philips Complete Works (3166 files in Properties) > Piano Concertos (125 files in Properties) > CD 1 (12 files). I do have a few ‘Collections”’ such as Billboard Top 500, with, as expected, 500 tracks, but this folder was not in the Sync I have been attempting, although I would like to get to it at a later date. I am not surprised timeout is an issue, as the sync goes really slow – 1000 tracks per hour.

Slow sync is due to Google API being the worst of the worst :frowning: It takes up to 10 seconds just to get access to the file to read the tags.

The timeout here is when asking for the folder content in that case multiple times for “Hollywood Undead - American Tragedy”

Any workarounds?

  1. Would it go faster if I disabled my VPN?
  2. I am reluctant to spread myself around as my entire life is on Google Drive, but perhaps just for Music is there an alternate provider?
  3. It would take some time, but if I moved my subfolders away, then synced a root folder with only a few files, then move the subfolders back and synced one artist at a time – could still time out on a single file though?
  4. Any other hacks other users who use Google Drive, one of the largest cloud services in the world, so must be some community knowledge?
  1. Probably
  2. You should not, see all the recent false CSAM account bans and 0 support after.
  3. It might work, but the issue is about the time to return the folder content not accessing the files.
  4. GDrive is the slowest provider of all providers there’s not much to do here. With large libraries using a real server that does the tag scan locally like LMS/Navidrome is best.

Best workaround I have found: Turn off my VPN as it seems the Sync process makes many, many API calls per track for filename, meta data etc. Second, I have set Power Optimization to Unrestricted to keep Android from killing the app. Finally I have turned the phone to Always On to avoid going to sleep. With that, I picked a 9,000 track folder and started the Sync. It crashed after 3 or 4K and you could see the count rate slow. Since Google Drive is known to throttle back heavy API use cases, I waited 10 minutes for Google to reset my use counter and tapped Sync All again. Sync was visibly faster, then started to slow and crashed. Hit Sync again and it finished. So now I am Syncing by moving my albums into the watched folder in batches which takes no copying time as it all takes place on the Gdrive. The first few have gone well so will get this all done over the next couple of days, but at least it will get done.
