SMB Playback Failure

Issue description:

I wake up in the morning and without a network change I try to play music from my SMB provider and it keeps skipping songs and then saying failed playback stopping too many errors.

I can open up my file explorer app on my Android phone navigate to my SMB share and play a song directly within 10 seconds while the music app fails to load over and over again…

I don’t know what but I believe there is a way to improve the app so that it can better reestablish a connection with my SMB.

I know there have been posts about this and I found a solution for one of the causes of the problem, but I think there are other causes to this problem.

Can you please take a look at the log file that I uploaded called SMBFailedPlayback01 just to see if you notice anything that could help us?

In the meantime I’ll start some SMB logging on my file server.

Thanks in advance for any time on this.

Additional information:

I do want to point out again that I’m using tail scale.

I also want to point out that because I use tail scale there are two IP addresses I can use to connect to my file server… I can use its actual ethernet interface IP address You know the one that I use for my LAN… I can also use the tail scale IP address.

I actually export all of my symphonium data and programmatically parse it and extract my playlists and my songs to merge with my desktop application…

Because I don’t want to have to replace the tail scale IP address with the LAN IP address when I’m merging because of course my local playlist reference my LAN IP address… I actually just use my LAN IP address in the SMB settings.

I’m curious if I use my tail scale IP address if it would be more stable.

I don’t want to do this yet though because all of my other apps can connect immediately without problem to the LAN IP address because I’m in my tailnet…

And yes I always make sure my tail net is connected when I’m experiencing these problems… and yes when I open up other apps and connect to my file server it’s probably establishing a brand new connection and a handshake or something…

But that’s actually what I’m hoping this app can do eventually with some improvements drop all of the connections and then reestablish a new healthy connection.

Reproduction steps:

Media provider:

Samba

Screenshots:

java.net.SocketTimeoutException: failed to connect to /10.0.0.21 (port 445) from /100.83.20.77 (port 51070) after 5000ms

You seem connected to a different network and it timeouts.

Wow that was an incredibly fast reply thank you.

I’m so sorry I just woke up but it looks like my file server restarted in the middle of the night and I’ve been having this issue and it restarts my SMB isn’t available right away…

This one was totally my fault it was all with my server..

I think my previous post that fix is still solid. Have a good day this can be closed.
