Feature description
I would like to request an improvement to the Album Artist navigation.
My music is correctly tagged, for example:
ALBUMARTIST: Alfredo de Angelis
But the tracks can have different ARTIST values:
ARTIST: Alfredo de Angelis
ARTIST: Alfredo de Angelis con Oscar Larroca
ARTIST: Alfredo de Angelis con Agapito Pérez
etc.
When I browse Album Artists → Alfredo de Angelis, Symfonium correctly shows all the albums associated with that ALBUMARTIST (around 150 albums in my library).
However, when I select “Tracks” from that same artist page, Symfonium only shows the tracks where ARTIST is exactly “Alfredo de Angelis”. In my case, this can result in only 2 tracks being displayed.
All tracks with ARTIST values such as “Alfredo de Angelis con Oscar Larroca”, “Alfredo de Angelis con Agapito Pérez”, etc. are missing, even though their ALBUMARTIST is “Alfredo de Angelis” and their albums are visible on the same page.
I understand from previous discussions that Symfonium currently opens the regular Artist page even when the artist is selected from the Album Artists list.
Would it be possible to have a separate Album Artist context/page?
When entering through Album Artists → Alfredo de Angelis, the Albums AND Tracks sections should use ALBUMARTIST = “Alfredo de Angelis”.
When entering through All Artists, the normal ARTIST logic could remain unchanged.
This would keep ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST properly separated and would make the Album Artists section much more useful for libraries where an orchestra or main artist works with many different singers or collaborators.
Problem solved
When browsing through “Album Artists”, the Tracks section currently does not show all tracks belonging to that Album Artist.
For example, “Alfredo de Angelis” may show around 150 albums, but the Tracks section shows only 2 tracks because it filters by ARTIST instead of ALBUMARTIST.
This feature would solve that inconsistency by making the Tracks section respect the Album Artist context.
Brought benefits
The main benefit would be consistent and predictable navigation.
If I enter an artist through “Album Artists”, I expect to browse the complete music associated with that ALBUMARTIST, both albums and tracks.
This is especially useful for orchestras and artists who work with many different singers or collaborators. For example, Alfredo de Angelis may be the ALBUMARTIST for hundreds of tracks, while the ARTIST tag identifies the specific combination: “Alfredo de Angelis con Oscar Larroca”, “Alfredo de Angelis con Carlos Dante”, etc.
Currently, the Albums section gives me the complete Alfredo de Angelis collection, but the Tracks section may show only 2 tracks. A separate Album Artist context would allow users to browse or play all tracks belonging to that Album Artist without losing the more precise ARTIST information.
Other application solutions
I don’t have enough experience with other applications to provide a precise comparison.
The solution I would expect is simply to preserve the browsing context: when entering through “Album Artists”, albums and tracks should be filtered by ALBUMARTIST; when entering through “All Artists”, they should be filtered by ARTIST.
