Feature description
Playlist remembers what song was playing inside the playlist.
Problem solved
Currently if a song is played outside the playlist, the resume function thinks the user played that song inside the playlist and ruins it.
Example: playlist has songs a,b,c,d,e
User stops playlist on song b.
User starts other playlist that has song d.
Resume playlist 1 now thinks user stopped on song d.
Brought benefits
Full playlist can actually be completed though android auto resume playlist function.

Disclaimer: I don’t know if you can access the Queues menu in Android Auto.
My understanding is that the Resume function is specifically for resuming tracks that have been partially played. You can set the play-progress threshold for creating resume points in Settings.
That’s not what you’re after, I get that. You’re trying to resume your playlist where you left off.
Which means you should actually be looking in the Queues menu. You want to continue your progress in the Queue created from your playlist.
You can add the “Queues” shortcut to your Home page or access it from the Now Playing screen. Clicking the name of your playlist here will continue where you left off. (Be warned, the list is capped at 15 queues. After that, old ones will be cleared.)
The playlist itself doesn’t remember your progress through the list. Nor do the Resume Points–which are “track-level progress”. The only “list-level progress” is stored in the Queue.
