Playback of cached music briefly pauses when network state changes

Issue description

My work has a guest wifi network that doesn’t get along well with my phone, causing frequent switching back and forth between wifi and cell data. I’ve downloaded a lot of my music from my server to avoid racking up data charges, but when I’m playing this music and the network flaps, the playback stops for maybe a half a second. I would not expect the network state changing to affect playback of cached files.

This is happening on a Pixel 9a.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Download some music to my phone.
  2. Play downloaded music at work.
  3. Work guest network kicks my phone off (or reconnects).
  4. Momentary pause on playback.

You have enabled the option for that (Force instant transcoding) that always instantly restart playback on network change.

So it’s transcoding local files? Is there a way to have it not do that?

It is not but the renderer can’t know exactly so do not enable the option if you do not want a restart.
